Covid 19 warning

For what it's worth, I just received news a good friend of mine passed away this morning from Covid 19. He got while RVing and they were being careful. His wife also go it, probably from him, but just got very ill. He was on a ventilator in hospital for 2 weeks. He was healthy and active. This is a wake up call for me. A winter at home beats eternity 6 ft under. This disease is not one to be blase about, it is not a hoax, it is not less dangerous than flu. Think long and hard before you decide to play Russian Roulette by heading for the sun this winter before there is a vaccine.

Maid of the Mist Versus Hornblower. Is this for real? Time stamp says 14 July 2020?

It was covered on the morning news here earlier this week, the Ontario government is struggling with that balance between health & safety on one hand and tourism & the economy on the other hand. At the time that was shot the passenger limit on the Maid of the Mist was 6 people at a time. I think it has since been upped to 50 but that is conditional on being able maintain 6’ social distancing between ‘bubbles’.

Sorry for your loss. We also plan to stay home until the situation changes.

I haven't been in a store since March before we left Florida. We order our groceries online and an employee loads them in our car. Same thing getting materials at Lowes for projects. Everything gets quarantined for three days before use.

Before leaving Florida in the spring it was impossible to distance from people. We left Florida a month earlier than planned. We are all accustomed to regularly interacting and socializing in the park. At home we have no trouble isolating.

Yah. Us to. We have never winterized our Motorhome in 17 years. This year will be the first. It will be plugged in all winter but we are not going to try and keep it from going below zero.

If it looks like Spain has a grip on things we may fly to the Canary Islands for a month or maybe Malaga area just to shorten up the winter a bit. Time will tell. It may be time to sell the property in the states. We will wait a year and see how it all plays out.

I am located in central rural VA. Maybe 180 cases total since March. I think it has more to do with urban vs rural. NOVA, RIC, and VA Beach have the highest population densities hence the highest rates. We have no intention of traveling there and are satisfied here in the boonies.

FWIW we did travel cross country in June to see our DD and SIL in Denver metro. We camped at Chatfield SP, and closest we got to Denver was Littleton. We visited many rural locations in CO and came home no problems. Too many stories have we heard of contagion for folks that packed into Myrtle Beach and Pigeon Forge.

We have a beach camping trip planned but not until September and hopefully then all the families will be back at home and density much lower. We will mainly stay to ourselves at the campground on the beach anyway.

You don't know anyone in the place where you go for the winter? As to traveling, if in an RV, you are pretty self contained. A lot of parks have gone to registering via phone/internet, you get your site number, they have emailed you the rules, restrictions, you pull in and go about your normal business, putting a mask on when outside of the RV. Go to the store to get groceries, put a mask on. Go to get pickup of takeout order, put on a mask. Have everything else you order delivered to your site. Not much difference than what we normally do - just no dinners out. We have some friends and can get get together with everyone spaced out and with masks on. Not ideal, but better than shoveling snow.

Personally as one who has to go to work right now, if I could stay home, I would. If i were retired, I'd stay home. It's not forever.

In my local area, the hotspots are rest homes, and low income labor. Makes sense, the first have generally compromised immunes, and the latter have no choice but work in some challenging situations generally without social distancing. I at least have the advantage of being in a controlled office where everyone is paying attention to distancing and masks in common areas.

I'm terribly sad I have not seen my mom since February, but I'm understanding of her desire to distance from me and would rather have the next ten years with her than risk it for a visit now.

Yes RVing is relatively safe. Masks, hand washing, and distancing help. But fact is the more people you interact with, the higher your chances of crossing paths with an Covid positive person. At this point I just assume I'm an asymptomatic carrier, but I don't know (and won't know, as I cannot get a test locally unless I've got symptoms).

I treat every interaction as if I have it, and they have it. But by far the best is to limit interactions in the first place.

Stay safe! And if you are fortunate enough to be able to self isolate, take advantage of it.

Too many unknowns for us for the coming snowbird season including the Canada/US border, we've already decided to cancel our annual trek to South Carolina.

I’m 72 and my wife will be 69 this year; until they have this virus beaten with a vaccine, we’re staying in the great white north! First time in 9 years. 😞

I am 71, my wife 65. First winter in 15 years for us. I don't even own a winter coat. Hoping that maybe there will be a vaccine by February and I can take a late winter trip. Even here in BC Canada we are seeing an upsurge, due to young people doing things like beach parties. We were averaging about 10 new infections a day, now its 30. Still way below most of the US, but it shows people are getting complacent.
