We are planning a trip this summer that will include a week at Custer SP the second or third week in June. Do we need to make reservations? If yes, how much in advance of our stay?

I would defiantly recommend reservations. I just checked and the spots are already filling up.

You should also check out Wind Cave National Park.

Also be careful. There are many roads around the park that are not RV friendly. Map

I would NOT take an RV on the Needles Highway or Iron Mountain Road. I would also be reluctant about taking the rv on the Wild Life Loop.

You'll be glad you did. We were there for five nights in August and it makes a great base for the many things to see around it.

Go to the historic Game Lodge and look at the fireplaces. Made from crystals brought up from Wind Cave and Jewel Cave, the bartender pointed out to us.

We didn't need to take a buffalo safari - they came to the campground every day, a big herd. You can walk up to the fence and get some amazing close up photos.

Be sure to see the Sylvan Lake - beautiful. Overall, one of the best state parks I've ever seen and a terrific vacation location.

i am a volunteer leo @ csp and yes i would make reservations as they stay filled most of the summer, also sturgis is in the first week of august and some people come early for that before all the madness starts. sorry a senior moment i was thinking july lol. still best to reserve as i said they do stay pretty well booked.
