Devine, TX

We will be heading down to the coast in early November. Want to stop to see a friend in Devine, TX and looking for a campground in the area. I found one about 21 miles in Hondo at 173 and Hwy 90 that is new.

  • There are 2 parks in Bigfoot. D&G and Kyote. Looks like they cater more to workers but rates seem decent. You could look at them on www.googlemaps.com earth view and zoom in to see what they look like.
There is Castroville Regional RV Park in Castroville about 20 miles away that looks good.
20 miles toward San Antonio in Von Ormy is Alamo River RV Ranch.

I had not see the 2 parks in Bigfoot on Google maps, but will look again. Thank you. I do realize lots of the parks have lots of oil field works in them.

Leaving Midland and coming to South Texas, you are leaving one oil boom area for another. I'd prefer staying in Castroville because it's not actually in the Eagle Ford oil field, and it's a nice little town with lots of character.
  • Major Dad, yes we are. My DH is a geologist an will feel at home with all the drilling rigs and traffic. Midland County has had 26 death on the roads from 1/1/14.Besides we try not to pull our camper in San Antonio even though it is our hometown. Always stay on the outskirts when we visit family. They can come to us! I am trying to stay fairly close to Devine for DH to visit with his former boss that he worked for during HS & college.

I know what you mean about the dangerous roads. We drove our truck/TT from Carlsbad to Pecos and on to Balmorhea in July 2013. With all the oil traffic and my 65 mph speed limit (TT tires), I did a little white knuckle diving for sure!

Have a nice visit...the weather is finally great in South Texas!
