Discount Camping Memberships

Been with Passport America one year... now, renewal notice comes in offering additional 6 months free, as long as I now pay a $5 handling charge - which didn't exist when I signed up, of course...

Trouble is, only used it once in the last year because most RV parks severely limit dates, number of days, and season s during which it can be used, all of which pretty much defeat the purpose of having it. Many limit stays to Mon-Thursdays, many limit the stays to off-season visits, excluding summer, and others limit stays to only 1 night, perhaps 2, and combine this restriction with others noted above.

I don't find this a fair exchange, and am looking at other options, besides the Good Sam membership I have, (10% discount) and intend to keep.

I'm interested in feedback as to what organizations have more accommodating memberships which are a bit more generous with their terms and benefits.

Can you offer any ideas that might work better that PA?

Thank you!

It depends on what you are planning to do. We use Passport America going to and from destination parks. If you use it twice it pays for itself. We also have Good Sam. We prefer National Parks and State Parks, but wouldn't leave home without these two memberships.

I like PA also, just because its cheap

PA has limitations but it’s so cheap, it usually pays for itself in 1-2 stays. Staying mid week is a plus, not a minus for us.

AARP and Good SAMS also.

We camp almost exclusively at State Parks...don't like the cramped closeness of the sites of many of the, "membership," parks....

+1

Although if I find myself frequenting something I might check into it such as KOA. Even that I let expire every time and resign up as needed. I prefer the freedom.

None work for me either, Mandalay, and I prefer USFS, BLM, NP, USFWS etc. CGs.

Good Sams and KOA if you still use them after the major fee boost from KOA. PPA is too limited in locations and has a lot of restrictions.

We have only 2... Good Sam and KOA. Both work for us. We stay enough at both the discounts pay for the price of the membership. And we have the Indiana State Park pass ($50 a year. With entrance fees $7 a car now, it pays for itself pretty fast).

A membership is beneficial only if it's actually used. If you are not planning on using it, don't renew.
