Dolores River RV Park, CO(ever stay here?)

Passed this park a few years ago and wife still to this day wishes we would have stayed there for a day or two and we didn't because of my insistence on going "a little farther!(wound up in the casino parking lot at Cortez instead)Something I will likely never quit hearing about in out tales or travel!
We are going to be going back on this route in June and was thinking "I better make reservations now" but after reading reviews they are very mixed with some not very good at all.
Any first hand info from anyone?

  • At Priest Gulch there is much less traffic noise, especially if you get a site right on the river and let the sound of the water lull you to sleep. And it is much, much nicer as well. Well worth a little extra drive, even for just a one-night stay.
  • We stayed at Priest Gulch campground, as others have posted it is a great place to stay. We used it as a base camp to explore Durango, Telluride and Mesa Verde NP. The owners are amazing people and make your stay very comfortable. Most of there sites are on the river and they offer free fire wood. Most campers in the park return annually to camp there for the summer. They usually receive the same campsite and are allowed by the owners to make them their own. An amazing concept I have not seen anywhere else that I have camped. Make your reservation you won't be disappointed.
  • Thanks so much for the comments on Priest Gulch, I will look into reservations there for a couple days. Enjoy your travels!
