Drive-through impressions of Hershey Highmeadow campground

A couple of weekends ago, wife, kids and I were up at Hershey's Chocolate World enjoying an afternoon with friends. On our way out, I decided to swing into the Hershey Highmeadow campground to see if it's somewhere that we'd like to stay.

I've written up my first impressions based on the drive-through. Can anyone who has stayed there confirm/reject any of this?

Thanks!
  • Good stuff. Thanks, everyone. I need to find a few minutes and update the review.
  • We've stayed here many times. We have a small rig, and site size is never an issue for us. The bathrooms are very clean and seem to be large enough to handle the summer crowds. I wouldn't go there other than to go to HersheyPark. As someone else mentioned, if you buy your tickets to the park at the camp store, they are SIGNIFICANTLY discounted. It more than makes up for the slightly pricey sites. Also, you get into the park an hour early. Only some of the rides are open, but you are already in past the gate at 10am when the crowd comes in. The trains can be noisy. We've camped right against the tracks and still got decent sleep. With the A/C on, you don't really notice. They trains do run all night. On the weekends in the summer, there are typical campground activities -- crafts, candy bar bingo, movie night, etc.
  • Nice write up.

The campground went through significant re-building after the last Hurricane hit the area. Was nice before and better now.

We have stayed there many times - only campground we stay at when we camp at Hershey. Spring and fall camping trips so the campground is not busy and has made it easier to get in and out of the campsites.

Stayed one time to go see the Hershey Bears and Syracuse Crunch play Hockey.

  • We were there for the RV show, camped up on the hill near the train tracks. Your review didn't mention the trains. They can be quite loud, particularly if your site backs up to them. You also didn't mention the tree placement in that section; in the site next to us, there was a large tree (18"+ diameter) at each side of the driveway entrance. To back into the site, the RVer had to pull most of the way in to the site across from him. It was messy but his driving skill was impressive. There are many badly placed trees. We had to use leveling blocks - no big deal and we were able to level. The front desk staff told us not to bother with the shuttle; we could drive over there faster than the time spent waiting for it to arrive. All in all, I will probably never stay there again. It was entirely too claustrophobic. Its only value is location and for the price, I would prefer to be a little further out with a lot more space.
  • Highmeadows is a great Place If your plan is to visit the park. Sites are tight, but your there for the convenience and access to the park. The shuttle seals the deal. We go to highmeadows annually. Pull through sites are easy to get into.
Fact is the place is busy. The sites are tight in an effort to fit as many campers as possible. I prefer trying to accommodate everyone vs. making sites larger and accommodating fewer campers.
Reservations during peak season can be tough to get,but Hershey does seem to make an effort to fit everyone in.
The park while very busy is managed very well,I've never encountered or even witnessed any issues while staying there.
If you enjoy Hershey Park you should make a plan to stay at high meadows.
I have visited the park and stayed at the next closest CG's which were adequate but did not compare to the atmosphere and convenience of High Meadows.
  • Well, we have camped there every fall while attending the rv show. I have stayed in parks with much tighter sites then Highmeadows. Since we are there to work the show, the park and the shuttle are perfect for us. The trains, being a rumble do not bother us as some people say. The cable works great and I have not paid extra for it. Over all I give the park an 8 out of 10. JMHO
