Living here in cincy ohio, we are looking into heading up the east coast in 2018. traveling with a 42 foot 5th wheel. suggestions for campgrounds, routes. and places must see. prob be on the road for 3 weeks.

Acadia is awesome. We love staying in the park campgrounds that have no hookups, but many private full hookup campgrounds in the area.

Connecticut has Gillete Castle, Mystic Seaport, and Hammonasset State Park (no hookups, on the shore of Long Island Sound).

Also, every town has a colonial era monument on the green and a historical society.

And.... that's about it. 🙂

Actually, we like Aces High in East Lyme. Close to Mystic Seaport and the Nautilus Museum.

Some general ideas from New England, Arcadia ME and if you don't want to drive up that far up maybe Old Orchard Beach Me which is popular too. White Mountains of NH has loads of touristy stuff. Lake Champlain in VT. Boston or Cape Cod in MA. Newport Mansions RI Skip CT

If you post back with more specific places/ideas you have interest in, may be able to provide some more detailed suggestions.

Besides geography, it is very helpful when making suggestions to have some idea of what sorts of places and activities you're interested in. Relaxing at a beach and touring New York City nightlife are both east coast activities, but often appeal to different people.

I would do a Google search for `_______ tourism' and put the city, state, area or other in the blank space and read what the specialists recommend for their location eg. `Maryland tourism'...

Plan your route and go. If 18 wheelers can make it, you can too. Pick your destination spots, connect the dots, then Google search campgrounds in those areas. Call, get your reservations, and then just go and have fun.

"Heading up the east coast" is a little vague. What part? Outer Banks? DelMarVa? New England? It would helps with the recommendations.

There is mainly just three roads that go up and down the East Coast I95, Route 301, US17...

Your trailer probably is on the two big side to go up and down US17 and US301 as they go through all of the small towns...

Fuel stations is another problem for big rigs. Kinda have to always fuel up when on I95... What most folks do is fuel up before hooking up again for travel...

The other problem is the big cities like Myrtle Beach and Charleston SC etc are not on the I95 corridor and you have to go 60-70 miles to get from I95 to the towns on the coast...

The south part of Myrtle Beach has great camp grounds but here again you are a little on the big side so that will rule out a few good ones...

Some times going big is not all that good haha...

I can still do a McDonald drive thru with my off-grid setup....
