Electric service at Waco Airport Park (Corps of Engineers)

The information on the 'Net indicates they have 50 amp electricity at the sites. Does anyone know if they also have 30 amp receptacles on the pole? My rig is 30 amp.

Perhaps someone can answer this who hasn't necessarily been to the Waco Airport site, maybe this is something common to Corps of Engineers sites in general.

Even if the sites were 50 amp only the only real negative is that we could not run the air conditioner or a fan. Then again in a Texas summer that might be a big issue. 😄

Any answers would be appreciated. Thanks!

I stayed at a park last week that had just 50amp plugs at the pedestals, I used a 50 to 30amp adapter and it worked just fine for my 30amp trailer.

Well, since yesterday the water level in Lake Waco has risen another 6 ft and now all the campgrounds, day use areas, and boat ramps around Lake Waco are closed. We are now 16' above normal water level which is a LOT around here because it is pretty flat. It will probably be mid-July at the earliest before anything starts to re-open. Many of the access roads are now underwater and the local news says that they require the ground to be dry for 2-3 weeks before they will let traffic back on the roads after the water levels go back down because if they are too soft the pavement will crumble.

Frankly pretty much all the COE campgrounds around the state and many of the state parks are on rivers or lakes so who knows how many are closed. Do your homework before planning to camp anywhere in TX that is near water.

The water level is currently 10' over the normal level and will probably continue to rise as they are holding back water to prevent more flooding downstream. Consequently most of the parks and campgrounds around Lake Waco are closed except for Midway Park which is the more suburban one on the other side of the lake in Woodway. Here's an article:

Waco Tribune - Lake Waco Parks Flooded

They will probably remain closed well into July and perhaps longer because even if the rain stops upstream and they can get the water level back down it will take a couple of weeks for them to dry out the asphalt where the roads are flooded. Perhaps longer if they need to repair damages to park structures. I usually walk my dog at the lake daily and every access point and ramp was closed and all the access roads and trails are underwater.

There are also some private campgrounds in the Waco area but frankly they look a bit sketchy and are in crummy areas. Frankly if I was staying in Waco right now and couldn't get into Midway Park I would just get a hotel.

Here is a link to an album of pictures for Airport Park that show campsite numbers. You will have no problem with electric. The 50A sites also have a plug for 30A and 20A.

We have stayed at the Waco Airport Park two times this year. It is a first rate place to stay. Many good sites. We used 50 amp, but I think there were also 30 amp connections. At any rate, it would be a good idea to have the adapter as others before have suggested.

It WOULD BE a big deal not to have air conditioning in Texas in the Summer, that's for sure. In fact, we use both of our ACs to cool down the trailer on Texas afternoons after traveling. We have never had to run them both at night, but have definitely needed them in the daytime.

I know the park at Waco pretty well. If you have any questions I'll try to be of help.

Does answer another of my questions. I had seen these adapters but wondered about the safety factor. I will get one and keep it on hand.

Don't be alarmed about the 50 amp. You will only be using one leg of the 50 amp. Your 30 amp breaker will protect you.

You should carry a 50 male to 30 female adapter. Something like this.

A lot of guys use this even if 30 is available. The contacts in the 50 are less likely to be damaged due to high amperage uses.

I 'think' there were 50, 30 and 20 amp outlets on the pedestals the last time I was at that COE campground.

Very nice place to stay a while.

You should carry a 50-30Amp adapter so you can hook your power cord to a 50 Amp receptacle if necessary. Your rig will run just fine if hooked up that way.
