Finally made it to Quartzsite

Hi Jolly. That's the name of the turn off a few miles above Quartzsite. Looks just like it did on the satellite views except for there are only 7 rv's so far. I am a half mile off of the highway and found the perfect spot (for me). 85 degrees in the shade of the motorhome.
I hit 3 casinos on the way down and lost $ at each one, so far everything is going according to the plan. Stayed at casinos the first 2 nights then at Lost hills RV park in Lost Hills Ca alongside I-5. Just happened to be located right next to a truck tire shop which worked out well because when I woke up I had a flat on the inner right rear tire. Turns out that when I had new tires put on they went with the 10 year old valve stems to save me money. My mistake, if they had asked I would have asked for new ones. Anyway I had all of the stems replaced with steel stems at Gutierez tire shop. They only charged $15 per tire. Nice guys. Only set my trip back 1 hour.
Arrived in Quartzsite and got gas at the Shell on Hwy 95 north , nice lady, and she recommended the RV place a bit further North for propane, water and dump. These guys were really nice.(I forgot the name of the place but will post it when I get back there) I told them I was a newbee and they just smiled. Then they gave me some suggestions on places to park for dry camping.
Found a site that is actually flatter than a pancake (remember that term?) The first thing I did after backing in was put up a piece of 50% shade cloth that is 12x50' on the southwest side of the MH. It cut the heat immediately, glad I thought to bring it along.
Sorry it must be obvious that I used to blog and this is starting to feel like the beginning of a book. Thanks for reading.
By the way this is being typed using my laptop and the handy new hotspot I found out that I have on my att phone. Technology, amazing. Now if I could figure out how to post pics from my smarter than me phone I would post them too.
That might be High Jolly, don't quote me on that.

The new RV Dump and water well off of Hyway 95 is about 1/2 mile east of the Hiway on the north side back in about 150'. Lots of people using it.

Be there in a week for quick stop and then be back Dec 1 for a few days before heading to Tucson, Bisbee, and then long drive to Kissimmee FL - yes you read that right, FLORIDA and then home to Indiana. Ran away from home 9/3 and this will be a good 7 month tour.

Any suggestions for
1 month stay around Tucson
Good park near Bisbee?
Good parks on coast in Texas and FL panhandle.

Thanks

Lavender Pit Mine has a campsite right on the edge of the open pit. Sounds nasty but it's actually a really nice little rv park that is within walking distance to downtown Bisbee. The town is delightful with an unspoiled character and no tacky tourist traps like some other "western" towns.

I see on the BLM web site that they installed a new RV Dump and water well off of Hyway 95 on Plamosa Road. Has anyone used this one yet?
Checked it very carefully today, from 95 to Bouse and then back. To answer your question, NO they have NOT put in either water or a dump station on Plamosa Rd.

Could you please post this info? We can't find anything on this. And do you know where the map is for the Quartzsite area? There used to be a more detailed map on their site and we can't find that, either. ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks.

Setting here now and saw NO indication of either as we came in yesterday. Will drive on up to Bouse today and see if it is any further up the road.

Parked on the north side of Plamosa Rd, about ยฝ in off 95 for the night. Excellent 4G LTE right now, but not many here yet. Will head on down the road tomorrow.

Has Costco broken ground yet? I heard that this one is going to be different than other stores in that the largest TV will be only 42" and all the packaging to be partial quantities rather than multi-packs.

Hot dog and soda will be only 29 cents to match up to the local client's spending habits.

rv2go......New Walmart???? In Quartzsite????? You must mean the one in Parker. We went to it a LOT last year....it's nice...big and has good prices on food.

The new Walmart in Quartzsite is just across the street from the YMCA, which has a great gym and a large, heated swimming pool.

We just passed thru the Q this morning...The new Walmart has closed!
They could not handle the competition from the new Nordstroms. There is talk about 7-11 moving into the empty Walmart building, but that could be just rumor

Hello ghsebtdr

If you want to get some English speaking channels on your TV get an antennae extender in Q. We got one last yr for $30. attached it to our 5th wheel antennae and got a lot more channels while dry camping.

Just a quick PS:, I read in the BLM flyer that you are supposed to maintain a fifty(50) foot clearance from other campers. That may be the reason for the border around their parking area, of course there are those expecting an Indian attack and circle the wagons, nose to tail and keep everyone in and park the toweds outside.
!!!!!!!!!! I'd never thought of that!!!!!!!! Indian attack.........yeah, let's round up the wagons!!!!!! ๐Ÿ™‚ Seriously, I'd not read that before.....it's a good idea!

The DW and I made Q last year for the first time for the show. We stayed at Hi Jolly for an overnight a couple of years ago because I was too tired to go on into LA and home. Been there once before maybe 35 years ago to visit dear departed rockhounding mentors. It sure changed a lot.

The DW was afraid that if we drove the RV in for show week that we couldn't find a place to dry camp or even in a paid campground. I tried to tell her that are about 18,000 acres of designated BLM camping and surly there would be space somewhere. Stayed in Blythe and commuted along with a lot of vendors.

So now to the crux of it all, Beer Belly's", it is a show week must. Even if you don't like or drink beer, go, look, listen and watch the dancers. You can tell the locals from the show crowd, the show crowd wears matching western style(square dance) outfits especially in turquoise and they have clear complexions, the locals wear T Shirts and boots and are more tan and wrinkled than the RV crowd.

Then if your just there for the show. come back a month later or if you're SBing go back in a month later and you'll be surprised at the change in clientele. A little more subdued and no matching outfits. Oh yeah, and there's parking where the tent was.

This is all said in jest, it's true but said in jest, so please don't take offence. We'll be there too in January and we may just wear our matching Aloha Shirts and flip flops.

We're planning Quartzsite in January and surely don't want to be classified as Amateurs, so where should we park? Ha! This will be our first trip to Quartzsite. Thanks.

dreamer.
My guess he's talking about Yuma....but I'm not sure. ANYWHERE around Quartzsite has amateurs AND "experienced". We've done La Posa south 3 times now and because of other dry camping, I consider us an "experienced". We've camped/met others that have drycamped there for 25 yrs and others that are experiencing it for the first time. Do not worry, just go down and plop yourselves and remember, if the ground is SANDY, avoid camping on it. Sandy means water, means a "wash". Park on the hardpacked ground. ๐Ÿ™‚ There's plenty for everyone! See you in January!

Thats amateurs like in HAMS i.e. amateur radio operators. Thousands of antennas.
Thank you for clarifying.....some of us have no idea what the "language" is for amateur radio operators.
