Fishing Bridge Campground in Yellowstone National Park

Thinking about planning a trip to Yellowstone in August. There appears to be some sites available in the Fishing Bridge campground at a time when we could go there. We have a 25-foot travel trailer. Has anyone here been to that campground before? Have any thoughts about it. Is it a yay or a nay? Should we look for something else or give it a try?

Spent 10 days there a couple years ago. If you can get a site and you need hookups, I suggest you make your reservation asap. They go fast. Fishing Bridge CG is nothing special to look at, but it is well located to visit many parts of a VERY large Park. We have a 30 ft. class C so when we made our reservation we picked a site a bit bigger; worked well. We really didn't spend much time at our site because we were out and about every day, almost all day. I believe all the other campgrounds in the Park are dry camping. Good luck, and have fun.

By the way, it is run by a concessionaire so you will not get the NPS camping discount.

We went to Yellowstone/Tetons last August, and it is a great time to go.

We wanted to stay 3 days in Fishing Bridge and 3 days in Tetons , but disappointed that FB was not available for us (40ft 5th wheel) since they only have a handful of "big rig" sites. So we ended up staying the entire time at Coulter Bay in Tetons. On one of our day tips, we drove through FB campground...and agree, Walmart with hookups!! We were SO GLAD there were no sites available!! Coulter was SO MUCH better!! Yes, it's a long way to the north end of Yellowstone, but well worth the extra driving. Longest day trip was to the north attractions...left at 7am and got back to camp at 9pm. But a GREAT DAY!!

Coulter is also VERY convenient to Jackson Hole if that's on your wishlist. Very cool town!!

There's also Headwaters at Flagg Ranch. It's just a couple miles south of the S Entrance to Yellowstone. http://www.gtlc.com/lodges/headwaters-lodge-at-flagg-ranch

Good luck!!

Stayed at Fishing Bridge in 2012 with a 27' trailer. Will do it again next time for the full hookups and central location. Yellowstone is huge and you spend all day driving around seeing stuff. We were at our site very few daylight hours. The camp store is decent and there is a fuel station there with diesel--even an auto repair garage. The campsites are small and would be tough for a motor home, but no problem for most travel trailers. Our best memories were the buffalo wandering through or watching the German tourists drain their black tank.

Stay at Grizzly RV Park in the town of West Yellowstone and enjoy the drive into the park. The town of West Yellowstone has so much to offer and isnโ€™t run by Xanterra corporation like everything inside the NP!

If you decide to stay outside the park in West Yellowstone be aware that the park enterence gets backed up each morning. It is best to get a very early start to avoid waiting. You will also be driving quite a ways to see points of interest in the park.

If we were going to visit Ydllowstone again, I would camp in two different places on opposite sides of the park to reduce driving times. It is a very large park.

Yes the entrance can get backed up in the mornings, but the drive into Madison junction (Grand Loop) is just 14 miles and I think there is always some to see along the Madison River. JMHO

Fishing Bridge's own employees call it Walmart with hookups. Not the best but who cares it is just a sleeping spot. The road to Canyon Village from Fishing Bridge (Hayden Valley I think) is where we saw the most wildlife. We had severe rainstorms and the roads and many campsites puddled considerably. I always tell the truth about the length of my trailer when making reservations but I think I might embellish some with Fishing Bridge. My site was too short for my trailer. Overall I would stay again just for the location and full hookups. Have fun on your trip.

Understand, and for a night I agree. However, I doubt a 2 6V battery bank would last 4 or 5 nights with out a lot of charging.

And even if you were allowed to run generators all day to recharge, I would never leave my generators running while I was off exploring the Park.

Many CPAP users run theirs off of 12v or an inverter.
You don't have to have shore power to run them overnight.

On top of that, I don't care that much about what the camp ground looks like. If I'm in Yellowstone, I plan on being out most of the time. When I get back, I plan on getting a quick bite to eat, and to sleep.

I know I'm a heretic but I don't need a fire to sit around to feel like I'm properly camping.

We stayed in Madison. No hookups but you can run generator 8am to 8pm. Much nicer and cheaper than Fishing Bridge.

As others have stated, it's all about location.

Tight - yes. Rough "roads" - yes, at least when we were last there in September, 2011. That said - it isn't so bad that I hesitated to book again for this June when we will take our grandson to YS for the first time. I'm hoping some bison will amble through around dusk like they did the last time we were there.

For us, it's just a place to sleep. We're up and out early and don't return until late unless we come back to download photos and relax during the middle of the day when the tour buses flood the Park.

When I decided to book, I called rather than doing it online. Glad I did, I was able to get a day that didn't show as available on the online calendar.

Have fun and enjoy my favorite NP.

We were there a few years back and it was at least as nice as any RV park we have ever been in. Even Cell coverage was tight, but the showers and the other things were just great. It was not to tight for us with our short class A (not that different than your TT). There was talk that they may fix the cell issue.

The best part was that when you wake up you are already in the park. Just about across the road is the visitor center. You need to get there to the (sort of) geyser schedule. Sort of, because they are just good guesses. Take binoculars for everybody, good walking shoes, hats and water bottles.

We plan to go back even though we are now too old to do all that much hiking as we would have liked.

The best thing about Fishing Bridge is location.
The only other positive thing is the horrible condition of the park roads kept the speeds down, serious speed holes.
Clean showers and laundry were nice, but you can get those at Canyon too.
