florida keys in April

We typically go to Bahia Honda State Park in the Keys at the end of June each year. Next year we are thinking of going during spring break in early April. What should I epect as far as weather, water temp, traffic, number of tourists, etc.? Is it much different than in June? Thanks.
  • Traffic is always a problem, it is usually less in May and June. Weather should be good, with water warming up. You are "thinking about going to sp or already have reservations? May be a problem till end of the month. Snowbirds will be leaving.

Reservations are hard to get. We stay at Long Key State Park and love it. We make reservations 11 months in advance. Good luck.

April is a great time to go. Not as hot as June. The winds have died down from March (for the most part) and it's nice and warm. Most of the snowbirds have headed north. We stay at Sunshine Key and that's when they allow the Cuban population to move back in and build their compounds. It gets crazy because each compound houses several families, a boat or two, golf cart or two and lots of loud music. We usually leave about that time. Of course the state parks don't allow that sort of thing, so you should be fine. We love April in the Keys and hopefully we'll be down there at least half of the month.

What he said. April is one of the best months for all of Florida. Even during spring break Bahia Honda does not get many college kids, and the ones we have encountered there were very well behaved.

It will be about the same as June... maybe a few less showers. We go for 2 weeks in April every year as well as a few other times during the year
