Flying a non-USA flag alone in the US. Disrespecful?

I've noticed that several snowbirds will fly their home country's flag without the hosting country flag alongside. I've always been taught that this was disrespectful to the hosting country. I'm guessing if you're a veteran, or have lost loved ones in a war that this would be especially hard to see.

What's your opinion? disrespectful or no big deal.

In the USA I fly 3 flags - USA in the middle with CDN and Union Jack on the sides.

What _I_ find disrespectful is the Fleur-de-Lis. That should NEVER be flown outside Quebec.

??? why should the Fleur-de-Lis not be flown outside of Quebec?

My RV, my flag pole, my flag. Really couldn't care less what someone else thinks. Don't like it, there are other places you can look.

Your vets fought for your right to display your flag just like ours did to display ours.

Well it does work both ways -- many is the time I've seen US flags flying in Canada, mostly in campgrounds. With no Canadian flag alongside. Do those of you who fly the Stars & Stripes outside the US also fly that nation's flag?

I think some folks look too hard to be offended.
You tell us what the Canadian flag code says. I know what the US code says and it is disrespectful to fly another nations flag solo.

That's the crux of the issue; you were taught. Flag etiquette is a thing of the past. Think of your neighbors who use Old Glory as a porch decoration, leaving it up at night, using it until it is faded and torn.
Here's an excerpt from the U.S. flag code:
"When flags of two or more nations are displayed, they are to be flown from separate staffs of the same height. The flags should be of approximately equal size. International usage forbids the display of the flag of one nation above that of another nation in time of peace."
This would make a second flag pole necessary. Unless ... the RV world adopts the sailing custom of flying Courtesy Flags: "A courtesy flag (or courtesy ensign) is flown by a ship in foreign waters as a token of respect by a visiting vessel. It is often a small (that is, smaller than the ship's own national ensign) national maritime flag of the host country .... The flag is customarily worn at the foremasthead of multi-masted vessels, the dockside yardarm or crosstree of the mast of single-masted vessels, while the house flag would be outboard. It may be flown from the jackstaff of vessels without masts."
So the RVs flag staff would require a cross tree. The RV's home nation flag at the top, the host nation's ensign on the awning side of the cross tree, and the owner's flag (or state flag) on the street side of the cross tree.
Sounds too complicated?

I am military Veteran as was almost every other man in my Dad's family and my wife's family. I'm proud of the U.S. flag, and when you're on foreign soil and you see that flag, it just puts a lump in your throat! I imagine folks that have associations with other countries feel the same way.

I fly the U.S. Flag at home all the time. I use to fly the flag when camping. Then one day something changed! I started flying fish and been flying (this) fish ever since. No one ever questions it!

If you want to get your britches in a knot, why aren't you guys upset by all of the racist Confederate flags we see flying from Rigs all of the time?

It is disrespectful.
And like so many proper things they are ignored because 'we must be tolerant' or attitudes of it's no big deal.

One should be proud of their home country but not by disrespecting a foreign country that you are a guest in.

Fly the US flag at home and on my boat. Only flag we fly around the RV has a little snowbird on it. I think that flag etiquette is more of an issue in times of war.

I'm not going to get my britches in a wad over it but it is disrespectful to fly another nation's, and/or another state's flag without flying that of the nation and state in which you are doing all this flying..

I can pretty much tell where you is from by your license plate, no need for a foreign flag to let me know you ain't from around here...:D

I can't fathom where someone would see disrespect in a foreign national being proud of his country.

What I find disrespectful is people who have no clue about flag etiquette and keep Old Glory out 24/7 with no lights at night, and remaining up until it is dirty, tattered and torn. Then they use it to make a sofa cover. ๐Ÿ˜‰

We took a caravan to Alaska last summer. One of the participants had so many wingnut political bumper stickers on his car, you could hardly see the color! I thought that was in poor taste being displayed in Canada.

I've seen it done a number of times.
Because the USA is such a melting pot, I don't think it's disrespectful at all and may garner you some interesting conversations with others.

I too think it disrespectful to not fly your host country's flag if flying your home country's. At home we fly US and NZ flags. We don't have flags on our campers because of the flapping noises (not as bad as windchimes noise though).

Maybe we need a flag to represent the RV Nation.
