Fort Wilderness Question

We are going to surprise our kids and stop in for a few nights before going to St. Augustine. I have a 43 foot toy hauler and was wondering if there is plenty of room for backing in? Also is there ample room behind the camper to unload a golf cart out og the toy hauler or will this need to be done before we back in?

THanks,
Tim

They are some of the tighter sites in a campground. My trailer is 35 feet total length and I needed all of the width of the loop to back in. definitely get a larger site if they have one.

well heck, we were there in the 1300 loop (premium sites) a week ago. We have a 30ft TT and long bed crew cab (22 ft long). my site was 70 ft deep and 18 ft wide. We barely made it in off the loop road between bushes, trees, turns on the loop, a very narrow loop road and the neighbors across the way with 2 cars parked all the way at the edge of their site. I made some great entertainment for the golf cart parade behind me but got in on the third try.

I was in the 200 loop and I had to have the mobil RV guy move his repair truck for me so I could back in.

there is a fort fiends app for smart phones that gives dimensions of every site and pics of almost all the sites (they are still trying to get pics of the least few to add in)

Probably depends on where you're coming from...

I tried from NC. Took a month.

You will need to use the side hook and unhook area. There is a large unhook area on your way to the sites, very easy to do there. The campground was constructed years ago, so some of the loops are a bit tight for really long rigs. Slow and easy, you will have no problems getting into a spot.

As mentioned before, go to FortFriends website, then look for "Fort Wilderness Sites". This part of their website list every loop and site at Fort wilderness and the level of difficulty to get into, easy, average and difficult. It also gives you the length and width on each site. The 500 loop has a very high number of sites listed as "Easy" to back into.
Have a great time. We are going in Oct.

There are so many golf carts at FW it is nuts. Disney even rents them.

There is a hitch/unhitch pull-thru you can use to get the golf cart out. It's right on the way to the loops. The premium sites aren't necessarily larger; it means they have a larger concrete pad and are closer to the amenities (which you may or may not care for esp. with a golf cart). The sites sizes do vary, but they do not measure them; all the workers know is tent, full, preferred and premium. I've seen 42ft toy haulers in a full loop and land a 75ft deep site that was next to me.

If you get to the site and cannot fit, look for a vacant one that will fit and send the golf cart to the front desk asking to move. The trick at Disney is to ask, they don't offer.

FWIW the Fort Fiends usually use the full hookup loops. They are cheaper, quieter, and not far from the large pool.

The guys at fortfiends know everything there is to know about this place. Here is a link to videos of all the loops at Fort wilderness. We will be there for the first time in august. As stated, they fill up easy so book now if not done already. You can request a loop if you desire but there is a trick to it. Do a search on that forum and they will show you how to do it.
