Fron Acadia NP to Niagara Falls

any NY state campground in the finger lakes would be good. If you like to hike the Franconia notch state park in NH would also be good

Welcome! Hope you really enjoy your time. Four Mile Creek Campground will fit your need, and is close to the Falls. Will you be able to visit the Canadian Side as well?

If you get a chance, we have really enjoyed the Watkins Glen Area and Especially Watkins Glen State Park. It's 3 hours below Niagara Falls. It's at the foot of Lake Seneca, one of the largest Finger Lakes.

If you take NY 104 or even the Thruway, a little south Rochester, NY is Letchworth State Park. Electric sites, 3 beautiful waterfalls at the end of very short hikes. Some photos of the park.

Vermont has some nice state parks, too.

If you like to hike, Mt Ascutney might be a nice choice. The hike up from the campground would be challenging for most 5 year olds, but not necessarily impossible (about 4.6 miles / 7 km long, 2500 foot / 750 meter elevation gain). There is also a road up to the summit. At the top there's a network of shorter trails (with vistas), an observation tower, etc. Paradise park in Windsor, not too much of a drive away, is a pleasant place to spend an hour or two or three walking around.

Smuggler's notch is another neat area. The campground is a little drive from the notch proper. I would not take a large RV through the notch (every year a few people manage to get themselves wedged up there), but a car or minivan or similar vehicle is no problem.

We did the same trip, but in reverse. We started at Four Mile Creek campground. Highly recommend that campground. Try to get a lakeside site. I think we were in site 232 which was a great site. There was a little drop down when backing into the site, but nothing that could not be handled. Nice space on that site and next to the common water faucet. Site 240 was roomy and private as well. I would recommend a trip to the Canadian side to Niagara on the Lake. What a gorgeous area. Especially, if you like wine. Some great wine tours. Next stop was Letchworth. I cannot remember the site, but it was nice. The park is fabulous. The canyon is actually at the other end of a really beautiful piece of property. Outside Bennington/WoodfordVT we stayed at Greenwood Lodge & Campsites. Super nice owners. A couple of lakes on the property with canoes and boats available. Surrounding area looked a postcard picture of Vermont. Pretty rolling hills and covered bridges. Then we moved on to Camden ME at Camden Hills State Park. Stunning harbor town with Mount Battie there with stunning views. Our last stop was Acadia.
If doing it again, we would have worked in a stop around the Finger Lakes as well. Again if you like wine, great wineries and stunning scenery in this area.

I would suggest you take US Route 2 across central Maine, northern New Hampshire, and northern Vermont. There are fine Private Campgrounds and State Parks all along or just off the entire road.

In your opinion is required to made reservation for my stay in the campground or is not a problem to find a site in august? We will be there from 8 to 22 august.

Great Trip you have planned. Acadia is one of my favorite places, I could do 2 weeks there and never get tired of it. Letchworth and Watkins Glen are both real gems in western NY. A lot of wineries around Seneca Lake if you like that, and both have nice campgrounds for tenting. The Lake George area has a lot to offer as well and is roughly half way between your end destinations. For NY state parks, make reservations for weekends as they tend to be fuller that time of year. Weekdays you will find sites available easily. Also, plan on going to the Canadian side of the falls. The experience and grounds are just all around nicer on that side. Much better view as well.

Unfortunately the site 222 to 240 is already occuped for the day I'll be there.

There are site 79 to 93 lake front but has no elettricity.

The site 223,235 and 237 are near 232, but no front lake.
What to you think about?
