Frustrated Pet Owner

Obviously bringing your pet along on camping trips, not unheard of. I recently travelled to California where. Was significantly surprised to find RV Parks charge for having a pet. I found anywhere from $1 to $5 dollars per day. Can someone, anyone explain how a pet causes a RV Park owner an expense. I can understand recouping costs for property, infrastructure and other related upkeep, along with a profit for their investment. But seriously, charging to bring a pet?

  • I have not been in a park that charges yet. However I am sure thing like that are coming to your local RV Park. Yes its another way (sad to say) to get much needed revenue. It falls in line with paying extra to guarantee the exact site you want even though you have reserved it.  With all being said it most likely will boil down to pet owners not picking up after their pets. I will always find dog poop when walking my dog. The worst part is RV parks provide dog fenced in areas, with bags available and one will still find poop.

  • Unfortunately many pet owners do not pick up after their pets. As a result many parks are dealing with ongoing complaints from campers about dog poop on their lawns, in the playgrounds, on the roads. Park staff end up having to do the cleanup which is costing them time and money, thus the additional fees.

  • The short answer is that the fee raises revenue. Exactly the way some campgrounds charge to have friends come to the campground for dinner.
