Gilbert/Mesa Campground Recommendations

Will be in AZ mid-April 2015 visiting family in Gilbert and need recommendations on a campground. I've looked at many online that are very restrictive, narrow roads, not pet friendly, etc. and am looking for something for two seniors (65+), one small dog and a 34' TT, full hookup, wifi would be nice. We don't need all the 'resort' activities but also don't need to be smashed between park models either.

Right now I'm looking at the Mesa/Apache Junction KOA as a possibility but don't know anyone who has been there. The distance from Gilbert is not a problem. We will spend 10 days before going on to Lake Havasu City for other relatives. Cost there is $36/nite and alright with us.

This is after 14 days from MI and before 7 days in LHC with a 19 day return trip.

I'm looking for other recommendations for the area. Thanks for the help.

While for the most part I agree, Lost Dutchman State Park does have some full hookup sites.

If you want full hook-ups don't consider the State/County parks. You should be looking at Mesa, Apache Junction, and Gold Canyon. By skimming through rvparkreviews.com you will rule in, and rule out those on your list, and go from there. Your access to Gilbert from those towns is good (the 60 and the 202), and that time of the year will not present a problem with crowds. The AJ KOA is OK, I drive by there to go to work, but there are nicer, and better located parks (60 in AJ alone). Spend some time reading about them online, what people who have stayed there, like and dislike, then you'll have a list!

Other than the host sites, which have full hook-ups? I've only seen electric and water offered.

2gypsies, Thanks for clearing that up. I didn't see that it was included by looking at the fee schedules. My mistake and it puts the State and County parks back in the running.

There is no $6/day for vehicles. That's included in your camp fee.

harley-dave, thanks for the suggestion but I'm feel since I'm from out of state I can't justify the additional fees for a State or County Park. With $30/day for developed site and $6/day for the vehicle it is the same cost as a KOA or RV Resort that will give pools, sewer, and WIFI.

The State and County parks in AZ look fantastic and I really would stay in them if the cost was not out of line, IMO.

You guys have some great parks with great views and should really be proud of them. Thanks for the suggestion.

We are going to stay on the island in Havasu City the following week. Another great place.

Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction is awesome with huge sites and it has some full hookups. You'll definitely need electric in April.
