golf carts and florida state parks

I know someone has a fast answer for me.

are golf carts allowed in florida state parks?

we have 14 days booked at St. George's Island State Park and wondering if we can use a golf cart in the park for going from the campsite to the beach area?

thanks
  • agelisaus, thanks for that number.

called and got an email brochure about golf carts. this is the info.

HOORAY! I can bring mine. what a relief :)

    info received:

As of July 1, 2008, golf carts and utility vehicles may be driven on public roads within Florida State Parks which have a speed limit of less than 30 mph.

    o Have a valid driver’s license
o Drive golf carts and utility vehicles only during daylight hours, between sunrise and sunset, UNLESS the vehicle is also equipped with headlights, brake lights, turn signals and a windshield.
    • Park visitors may only drive on public roads. NO driving on sidewalks, service roads or “off-road”.
    • Golf carts and utility vehiclese MUST be equipped with:
    o Good brakes
    o Dependable steering
    o Safe tires
    o Rear-view mirror
o Red reflective devices (tape) on the front and rear of the vehicle
    Important Definitions

    Ugh...NOT.
  • huh, I never saw a state park that rents carts. that is sweet, wish more would do that.
  • Hillsborough River SP has a vendor on site that rents them as well.
  • Thanks for the great replies. seems like it will be allowed, but with that phone number that agesilaus gave me, I will definitely call. THANKS!!
  • I thought I read something about them having to be street legal.
  • They are allowed but check regulations to ensure yours qualifies. St George would be a good location for one. Maybe you can outrun the skeeters.
  • It is always better to go straight to the source to find out the definitive answer. I, too, recommend you call the park and find out.
  • You know, I don't think I've ever seen one in a Florida State Park. But on the other hand I've never seen anything banning them. I doubt that there would be a problem on the paved roads, probably not allowed on trails. Why don't you give them a call at their visitor info line: (850) 245-2157.
