Good Food Near the Allentown KOA

We are heading to the Allentown KOA this September and was wondering if anyone could recommend a good, family-friendly place to eat. Either cheap or mid range prices would be great--nothing fancy. We love burger joints, diners and the like. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Dear CapeM1,

Thanks for that great Cedar Beach playground recommendation. We went there last weekend and my kids LOVED IT!!! I did a blog post about the playground with pictures--please take a look! Thanks again.

Thanks for the recommendation on that playground. I looked at it online--looks amazing. My four year old twins will love that. I'll try to remember to report back!

The absolute best PA Dutch cuisine will be found at Deitsch Eck in Lenhartsville. Use the Rt. 143 interchange from I-78.

If you want food from a chain restaurant there's a Cracker Barrel in Hamburg, north of I-78 off of Rt. 61. If you do that, take a ride up Rt. 61 to Port Clinton and check out the Port Clinton Peanut Shop (on left). You'll find all kinds of candies you had when you were a kid that you thought weren't made any more, plus lots of stuff made on the premises.

There are a couple of restaurants south of the KOA in Fogelsville (I-78 & Rt. 100) plus a few family-owned drive-in joints north of the KOA in New Tripoli (Rt. 100 & Rt. 309).

In the opinion of this life-long resident of the Lehigh Vally, you can get chain restaurant food anywhere. Deitsch Eck is better food and a better value. BTW I am sitting in Site #56 at the Allentown KOA as I type this..........

We were there last year and found a bunch of restaurants in the Lehigh Valley Mall complex including the big chain ones like Red Lobster, Longhorn Steak House etc...

We stayed there 2 years ago and loved it. In the office they have a booklet that shows all the menus and locations of nearby businesses and restaurants. The camp host had recommended a nearby ice cream/bakery/candy store to us(I can't remember the name but I am sure they will have it). I highly recommend you try this place out for dessert. They have a patio area with tables and music to eat at. It was so nice we went twice! The ice cream is homemade, and the bakery treats were to die for! I am sure the campground hosts will also tell you which restaurants are the locals favorites!

We went off-season so the CG was very quiet on our visit. The leaves were just beginning to turn colors, making it all the more relaxing. One note of caution is that (unless it has been changed), is the entrance to the CG was very tricky so be careful when approaching it. Also, the road back to the CG was a bit "tight", so drive with extra caution, otherwise I expect that you will have a great time.

One more thing..if you have younger kids I HIGHLY suggest you visit the Cedar Beach Playground while in Allentown. (Google it for directions). This was an absolutely great park for our grand-kids to play at..it is huge! Hope you get to check it out. Have a great trip!
