Hauling blue boy

We spend a long time boondocking on the BLM land in the Quartzite, Az area and want to start hauling a blue boy (BB) behind our newly purchased Honda CRV to haul waste to the dump station. What is the best way to attach the BB behind the car? I am concerned about the small plastic wheels and going over rough roadways and also not being able to see the BB behind the car. What are my options?

For what it's worth .... my definition of "boondocking" is camping someplace where it's way too far to a dump station to haul a blue boy.

There is a lot of great drycamping around Quartzite, however. 😉

Since you'll be long-term at Quartzsite's BLM area you might try to park closer (not real close - ewe eee!) to the dump station and put bigger tires on it.

Quartzsite is a huge, huge desert area. There are really no roads except paths made by other RVers to find their spot in the desert. It's not a campground. You just park anywhere you want. The area goes for miles in all directions. Sometimes you have to drive through washes (gullies). It can be very rough. I'd park close.

Good luck.

I tried but could not find where any body wrote that they were towing their blue boy on the highway.

Well my question is if it's intent is not to drive with it on the road or a highway then why attach it to the car? And the meaning of "Roadways" could be either campground roads or highways. but either for any distance with wheels this small is a recipe for disaster.

Roads, Highways, Trails, campground roads, cow trails, So what? Who cares? just a lotta nit picking to do over nothing.

whatever you do, don't haul it to a portable toilet like I saw a few campers doing in Arizona.

:B

but, I'm sure you wouldn't do that, I just was reminded of the ick factor a few months back. I still can't believe someone did that.

If you ignore the word "rough", perhaps.

Those familiar with the BLM camping at Q knows that you have to travel a couple of miles on gravel roads to reach the dump stations. This can be done at very slow speed as it's not a major road. I have installed a receiver hitch on the back of the Honda and will be putting some rubber tires on the blueboy. Thanks for all the replies.

Yep, a trip to the Big Boys' Toy Store (Harbor Freight) for the wheels. I replaced the original axle and got a longer rod at Home Depot. This allowed for several washers to build the new wheels out from the tank and the use of clip pins for easy wheel removal. The wheels also do double duty as they are used on our PVC canoe cart.

Folks like this guy have retrofitted their blue totes with Harbor Freight pneumatic tires:

As far as attachment, I use a ratchet strap to secure the tote to the safety chain spots on the hitch receiver.

I have found a second hand trailer hitch with 2 inch receiver for the back of the CRV and am thinking about buying it to pull a BB and also for a bicycle carrier.

I think the idea of carrying the BB inside the trunk of the CRV sounds safer than pulling it on the ground.

We were looking at one of those Reese hitch platforms so you don't have to drag the tote behind. They make one with a ramp that you would use to haul a mobility scooter, making it easy to get the tote on the platform. Check out Harbor Freight.
