Hello from Florida

Hi everyone. I live down here in Florida & was wondering if anyone ever comes down to the Georgetown/Lake George area? We have 11 acres there we are trying to develop ourself lol. Got the building permits etc but no $ :( working on it bit by bit. It's located across the road from Lake George & the Georgetown Marina. Going to be a nice fishermans paradise hopefully 1 day just not sure we want to live here or not because right now back home we have to look after my dad.

Where are your fav places to go when you come to Florida? Do you prefer the ocean areas or hunting/fishing areas? Do you stay in campgrounds or do you have your own property you stay on while here? My husband & I would love to have a place here & up north somewhere. Never had to live & deal with snow though.

Can you tell me about breaking down on the side of the road a long ways from home? How do yall handle that esp if it is something the rv needs repairs done? Is there a insurance policy or something that would help you out with something like that esp if your driving a rv. Well thank you for reading
  • IMHO, too many snowbirds get hung up on temperature and everyone wants to be south of the I-4 corridor. I always say from experience ( born and raised in Chicago area ) 60 degrees in north Florida is still better than 10 degrees wherever you're coming from. With that said, I head to the northern part of the state during the winter to get away from the craziness in SWFL during the winter months.

Isn't that a bit far north to spend the winter for snow-birds?
  • Where are you folks who live in FL spending your summers? We recently bought property in the Ocala area but would like to spend summers where it's cooler. Please give me a few ideas? Carolina mountains? Northern PA?

I don't know where else to ask this. Thanks.
  • We rent a site in the Crystal River area. It's not real beachy and it's a bit cooler in the early winter, but it's pleasant enough. I don't fish, but quite a few other campers do and they like the fishing there.

You can have a place up north too, but just don't come when it might snow. We northerners just do the opposite of what some Florida residents do....north in the summer, south in the winter.
  • People come to Florida for different reasons. Some like the beaches but RV spots near the Atlantic or the Gulf or in the Keys is very expensive. Also many snowbirds like to be south of Sarasota for the warmth in the winter. In my opinion an RV park in north Florida would be very seasonal with the busy months between November and March. The rest of the time you would have mostly locals who wanted to fish or be on the lake. Sounds like a good location. If you had a nice place with good rates you would get some snowbirds.
  • Hi.
We lease a lot at Lake Okeechobee.
    Love it there.

    The best insurance against breakdown
    is Good Sam.
