We're looking at being in the Hempstead, TX area over Christmas to visit family and wonder if anybody has any recommendations. I see the Red Oak Ranch and Lazy H RV Parks show up when Googled but no reviews available. Thanks.

I'll second RamTX views of Red Oak. I've driven thru it before and the observations are correct. We went by there this last weekend and there were a lot of RV's there. Stephen F. Austin State Park is an option, we've stayed there before. Nice setting. Another option might be Jellystone just outside of Waller which is east of Hempstead.

I've passed by there a number of times. This is strictly based on opinion from a distance, but the roads appear to be gravel and dirt as well as the pads. Some spots are un-level, and there is no shade which shouldn't be a problem in December. Don't know about amenities, but it apparently has a nice recreation center or meeting place as I see a number of RVs there on weekends.

Thanks. I checked those reviews out but they are old and I hate to judge something that may have been corrected. I'm hoping to find something newer.

found reviews on www.rvparkreviews.com for Red Oak Ranch. Not too good. didn't find the other one. I think I would drive a few minutes and find something better. Stephen F. Austin State Park is 20 miles away and got pretty good reviews. 30 amp with water and sewer.
