As they say it's unfair to tar all with the same brush, but years ago we found KOAs to be extortionately priced in the areas we were booking into and very much nickel and diming with add ons - accordingly we have avoided them for more than 15 years since our first year on the road with them we felt wasn't fair bang for our buck. For us it was a couple of times bitten more than twice shy.

However, $40 for an overflow whilst seems extortionately high is hard to judge based on not knowing the location, was there a special even in town or generally on supply and demand. Also was is the full story did they double book your site?

For example you can stay on a tarmac carpark in Chicago for $22 a night plus $8 reservation fee, so $30/night, which would be very similar to an overflow situation.

So far in my 12 years of RV`ing I`ve only came across 1 KOA out of 6 that I would go back to, Hayward WI very nice! and only 1 other I would stay at again for an overnight, I think it was in KY? otherwise they have nothing special!

I've been treated very well at some KOA's and, sorry, but I refuse to boycott them based on input from one post from a person I don't even know.

Given the deplorable condition and outrageous price of KOA's in our area, we will never stay at them even when traveling. I feel we always get a better deal staying at other private CG's.

Not so much. It was a naughty verbiage. Wasn't enlightening whatsoever. ๐Ÿ™‚

We have stayed in many KOA's and will continue to do so. As other have said, there is more to the story than what op wrote.

I agree with the OP, that's outrageous price gouging.
I'm glad he was able to go elsewhere.

It might behoove those unhappy with a facility to not stay there. I really don't think anyone forced you to stay there.

My wife and I stayed at over 65 KOA's in the last couple years. Only one was terrible. I believe their franchise has been pulled.

Boycott them? Why? They are individually owned and managed.

Sorry about your bad experience. Did you have a reservation for a specific type of site or did you just show up? $40 for an overfill lot seems a little high, but I don't think you're giving the complete story. Also, as pointed out, they're independently owned, so what good is a boycott of all KOAs? I do find them a little pricy, but each one has been clean and run by a friendly staff.

KOA may not have anything to do with it. What campground are we talking about? If you don't want to stay there, don't. Many people, including me, stay at KOA campgrounds and find a lot of them good. We stay at two KOAs one night every year on the way south.
