Lake Placid NY / Whiteface Mtn suggestions

Looking for some RV park / campground suggestions specifically in the lake placid area. We are a family of 5 with twin 10 yr daughters and a 17 month boy. When camping local we are more state park type people but we do want hookups and are not opposed to the "KOA type" parks as long as they feel somewhat like a campground and not a parking space. We will be using our 33' TT.

Looking for beautiful sights and rustic feeling, access to water for kayaking, hiking, etc. but also want some things to entertain the kids like possibly a pool or beach. We have been to lake George in the past and loved it. Looking to go a bit further North. Will be there second week in August. Thanks for any suggestions!

Wanted to thank everyone for the replies and suggestions. We just got back from a week at North Pole resort. Thank you very much for suggesting hundred acre side!! We got a huge pull through, very shady and quiet site. Amazing the difference between the two areas of this campground. Would have been nice to drop my kayak in right at the site, but the other side was so tight it was amazing. Hundred acre was perfect. Also, what a beautiful area! We enjoyed all of the Olympic attractions as well as hikes and sight seeing. Great area to visit!

The 100 acre sites are large, level shaded sites away from the pool, playground and cabins. If you want the pool it is a short walk to get to the pool.

Thank you for the replies! Regarding North Pole, everyone has said 100 acre woods. Why is that? The "resort" section says it's along the river and has water front sites. Are the 100 acre sites better shade and larger? Just curious why the overwhelming choice of 100 acre section. Thanks again!

We have stayed at the KOA up there and it is fine. Some sites aren't very level but it is relatively quiet for a KOA and very shaded. The other place is the Wilmington Notch State Campground. State sites don't have hookups but sometimes water. It's very quiet and closer to LP.

Never stayed at the KOA, but another vote for North Pole - 100 Acre Woods side.

One thought on Santas Workshop, it's been around for a loooooooooong time and you may have the park to yourself and few others. Thanks to the OP's who gave the correct name of the CG I mentioned.

Stay at the North Pole Resort, hundred acres side. Jim and Mary Ellen are great hosts, bathrooms/showers are clean, there is plenty to do in Lake Placid/Saranac Lake area. There is music in the park, a beach, A&W drive-in, ice cream stand, all within walking distance of your campsite. No need to go to Lake George.
The KOA is in the woods and if it is dry it gets so dusty because of the dense tree cover.

Just in case that won't work for you, the KOA was very nice (IMO) when we stayed there - but that was some years ago (2007?) Anyway, quite wooded so plenty of shade there too.

I think it's called North Pole Campgrounds in Wilmington/North Pole NY. More/less at foot of Whiteface Mtn toll road. Have herad it's very nice. There is a KOA nearby, but not mentioned much and when we scoped it out couple years ago, didn't impress us much. Lake Placid isn't all that far away, on same road as base of WF mtn ski resort, road to top of WF mtn literally a miles or so from CG. Last I knew it was 10/15 bucks for car/driver and 5 for each add'l person. to drive to the summit. Lake geo is about 90 min away +/-. Not sure how you'd be going up, but diesel maybe a bit hard to come by up there at a place that turns it over a lot. If heading up 81 and across above Watertown, Long Ways Truck Stop right off 81 (x48?). If going up I-87, x16 Scotty's truck stop. Hope this helps some.

Perfect, and we can take the kids to visit Santa while we are there ๐Ÿ˜‰ Thanks! I will look this up. It sounds great!
