Lakeland Florida

Hi Everyone;
I've asked this question before but that was some time ago. So we are headed out for a lengthy trip & our end destination is Lakeland, Florida for my Tigers Spring Training 2014 Session. Please can everyone throw out suggestions as to where to stay for the month of March 2014 in Lakeland & the surrounding area close to Joker Marchant Stadium or other ball parks. We are new at the RVing game but come March we should have 5 months experience under our belts. We own a 30' Trail-Lite Travel Trailer so Pull-thrus are always good. Thank you & have a good day.

Regards
The Tigers Crew
  • Lakeland Carefree Resort is very close to Tiger Stadium, (about 3 miles). There are a lot of people stay at that park especially so they are close to the ball park. It is usually full all winter long, but I do know of some people who are not returning this winter. Their site may be taken now, but I also know some people who got in there winter by just calling at the right time. So you never know. Sanlan Ranch is also a nice place and it is close as well, I have never stayed there but I have visited friends there and they like it very much. It is a lot bigger park, Carefree Resort only 238 site I believe and Sanlan is at least double that or more.

    Hope this helps
  • Last winter, during our first trip to FL, we visited several different areas. Since I too am a Detroit Tiger fan and wanted to see a spring game we found a campground in Winter Haven called Cypress Campground & RV Park. They have 194 sites and I'd guess that more than half were pull-throughs. It was a nice park with gate security and right next to a Wal-Mart. Click on their website below. Also, it's very near the old Cypress Gardens, now called Lego Land.

    The other clicky below is from RV Park Reviews.com listing the rated campgrounds in Lakeland. If you've never used this site be sure to check the ratings by different campers as well as their comments. You can also find campground websites from the clicky.

  • Sanlan Ranch RV park is about the closest one. Check www.rvparkreviews.com
    Also try Tampa East RV park in Dover FL. Another is Lakeland Carefree Resort. If you don't mind a bit of a drive, Lazydays RV resort in Seffner, FL is 24 miles away and is much better. They only allow 2 weeks in the winter but may extend if they are not 100% full. Sadly not much to choose from in the area. Most parks there cater to retirees and have seasonal sites. There is a KOA 24 miles east in Davenport. Not sure if they have monthly rates. You would need to call them directly.
  • Try Woodalls Park, 2121 New Tampa Highway, Lakeland,Fl
  • I use google maps and then in the search box, I type - campgrounds near (the city and state you want). It will put red markers at the campgrounds and you can then click to see the name and if they have a website, there is usually a link to the website for more info.
