Sam's Town KOA is a good campground with free shuttle to the strip and old downtown.
Based on your suggestion, my wife and I stayed there Friday and Saturday nights this past weekend. That place was great, and so amazingly cheap! A 50A pull through spot for our 45' fifth wheel was only $45 per night.
The place was very well maintained and the location was pretty good.
Ironically though, the staff there were really cranky. My wife and I both interacted with 2-3 different people at the front desk and we both independently agreed that everyone we worked with was just a poop. We had just come from a week at a different KOA where the staff all treated us like family. What a stark contrast.
Anyway, I would definitely stay there again. This is definitely the cheapest way to do Vegas. Also, the slots at the two nearby casinos there at Sam's Town were very loose compared to the strip. I'm not usually a winner, but I took away enough to pay for our two night's stay and dinner for two nights.
