Legalized weed in Colorado - impact on campgrounds

Obviously with the legalization of recreational weed in Colorado, will it be allowed to be used openly in state and federal campgrounds?

I personally don't care what consenting adults do behind their closed doors, but how will the laws be enforced within these campgrounds? I've booked a week at Ridgeway this summer and I don't want to have to worry about my family being impacted by a bunch of potential stoners camping around me. I highly doubt it will be a issue, but I just kinda want to know what to expect.

Whole country will be stoned before long.

For medical use only and I cannot wait so that my wife can try it to see if it cuts down on the nerve pain from her spinal cord injury. It may also lessen the amount of Oxycontin she needs to ingest.
And 16 ounces is allowed in NYC.
You are not batting to well on your facts.

If your wife needs something to help cut down on those pain meds then yes, it can be done. My situation was most usual like most on here in that I was brainwashed to keep drugs away from kids and myself. Boy, when my wife had a back injury, I never thought I would change from that mindset. Over 5 years of her taking vicodins and the fact that she has hep C too. Those vicodins are basically killing her because her liver was hardened, scar and was told she needed a transplant if they do not have any better treatment soon. They opened her up when she had the bariactric surgery and said the first thing they noticed was the liver was a problem. So, she can only think that she contracted hep C thru a tattoo back in the 60's. Anyways, When the docs say that she has to wait till there's a better treatment. We decided to get her a card and see what happens. It took several times to get the right strain to help her. We got it down to that the indica strains are for body pain and sativa are for head problems. She was able to cut down on those vicodins and was able to put a bunch back for emergency while still getting them on time for refills. That was definitely helping her. The last time she tried alcohol, it made her really sick and we could not figured it out till we found out she has the hep C. No problem with the mmj tho. She cannot smoke so, we do the edible types. She is alternating between several strains. She uses indica type named Harlequin, and mix it with sativa/hybrid type named Blue Dream. However, not everyone will have the same strains for the same health problem. And, she does have to get off of it once in a while to get some normalcy back. Now, I had to apologize to our kids about threatening to turn them in if I ever caught them with the stuff. What a change. All it boils down to is money! Does not matters how or why, just money. When you love someone, you will go to the extremes to help them before they leave this planet. I doing that. That is "my opinion" Good luck darsben. If it helps, all the power to you. If it doesn't, then at least you tried. Everything is not for everyone, including medicines too.

OH! And I'm waiting to see if all that prozac I took back then in the past will put female breasts on me like the other stuff, Ritalin? Not yet... Sativa actually does my depression just find. No prozac now.

I would like to make several comments relating to the OP's question and add my personal comments on medical mj. The Colorado media along with law enforcement has made it very clear that public consumption is not permitted. That means you can't walk down the street toking on a doobie just like you can't walk down the street drinking a beer. Law enforcement is National Park campgrounds is pretty strict from my personal observation. Colorado state parks and recreation areas are likewise closely monitored. So public consumption of mj shouldn't be a problem. I would imagine that remote BLM and FS campgrounds would be a different matter. Like others have I would rather camp next to potheads than drunks.

Now as to the medical mj issue. I am allergic to nsaids. They send my bp through the roof. Knowing that, I got my Colorado medical mj card just before having my knee replaced two years ago. Using mj candy, I was able to stop all narcotic pain killers three days after surgery. The candy I used had the type of THC that didn't give me a head high. It was just for pain. Later, I found out that the topical mj cream works for temporary relief of arthritis in my hands.

When I went to the dispensary as they are called, most of the patients appeared to my in their 60s or older. Some were obviously very ill. Yes, there were some younger looking stoners who were obviously abusing the law.

Pot heads don't bother me at all like drunks do. I stay away from campgrounds that are known as "party" campgrounds. My biggest issues with cigarette smoking is the smell - it stinks! And the people throwing their butts all over the place. Pot does not smell at all like cigarettes, smells rather sweet. That doesn't bother me, and there aren't filter butts all over the ground.

In Connecticut the "crime" of pot smoking / possession has been reduced greatly, basically equal to a parking ticket.

Pot smoking does not bother me. Seems logical (always has, not sure why it's taken so long) to consider it the same as alcohol as far as laws / rules / regulations.

There have been lots of threads about your camper being an extension of your private property... as a previous poster asked, even if pot smoking is illegal in a campground, what about inside your camper? And everyone WILL know you are smoking, very hard to hide the smell.

If I had a choice of weed or booze in the neighbouring campsite i'll take the weed everytime. Besides, they might be baking brownies for desert.

When I read the "ballistic" comment, it reminded me of Dom Deluise's character in "Best Little Whorehouse in Texas", where he goes in the room where they are smoking pot, sniffs the air and hollers "Cocaine".

I really don't think you would have any issues with some campers smoking weed next to you. It's definitely not something to get all worried about. I would much prefer the younger campers to be smoking weed instead of drinking until their drunk and out of control. I've never been in a confrontation with a out of control stoned kid. I suppose it might happen some day but if it does go and give him some cheetohs or something and they will quickly settle down. ๐Ÿ™‚

It is here in WA. There have already been instances--since the legalization--of pot-impaired drivers causing accidents and being arrested. Impaired is impaired. And many companies that do random drug testing have said they will not tolerate any evidence of cannabis in their employees. Which is rather hypocritical when one considers how alcohol is abused.

In most states, the DUI/DWI laws are written such that any intoxicating substance that would impair the ability to safely operate a vehicle are prohibited.

You can get arrested and never have had a drink. Pain pills? Allergy medicine?

The policy (generally) forbids being under the influence of predetermined intoxicating substances; in predetermined disallowed amounts.

If you test positive, you will absolutely be terminated.

The policy does not forbid use of substances; the policy prohibits having those predetermined amounts in your system while performing work duties.
