Limit of six people per site?

Trying to get some friends of ours and their kids to go with us on an upcoming trip over Spring Break. We total nine people - which isn't a problem as the right sleeps 10 easily.

However, all the campgrounds we are contacting (Fort Lauderdale area and Sarasota area) will only permit a maximum of six people per site. One campground said it had to do with fire codes - but I don't see why that would factor in.

Does anyone have any insight into this logic?

Me too.

But these people will lie and cheat to disregard the rules with no thought to their neighbor campers.

Just like the 2 dog limit...they lie and bring 4 or 5 dogs!

Yesterday I wrote a reply similar to yours about the extra dogs, and it got pulled -- probably by a moderator who sneaks in extra dogs.

I wonder how long it will take him to pull this one ???

Follow the rules. 6 per site.

I am glad everybody cannot have 10 per site...then it would be "gee" we have 12, can 2 more stay?

Get 2 sites, or see if a cabin is available for your friends to rent. KOA's have them.

Again, no respect for campground rules or the impact of others around you.

Rent two spaces. Otherwise rent a condo. With no limits on numbers.

We often travel with eight and it comes up about half the time. I have found, in some cases, the rule is waived if the extra people are minor children, but rarely waived for adults.

The solution for those campgrounds is to book two spots side by side. Which is fine...after all, 8 people do use more resources than 2 or 3...

Most are flexible if it's just one family, parents and kids. We've camped all over and have had only one place that would not let us stay on one site. That was just outside of Nashville. My buddy from work that was from the south says they call that the "hillbilly rule".

Group sites. Look for a place that offers group sites. Some also sometimes have paired sites, that is, a site with dual facilities intended for two "especially close" families. I volunteer at an NFS campground that has both two group areas and among the "regular" sites, a couple "paired" sites. And while we try to welcome and accommodate everyone, the fact remains that the facilities do impose limitations on us all. And a group of 9 or 10 is going to use more resources than a group of 4.

Other posters have enumerated the reasons for such limitations. There's no telling which specific reasons are at play in any given campground, but probably all of them to a greater or lesser degree.

Sheesh, what is the problem? For whatever reason the CG limit is the CG limit per site. That is what it is. Get 2 sites & enjoy the additional space. Between 9 people it is still cheap PP.

More then six on one site adds to the 'usage'

But two sites with six each is acceptable.

I like the suggestions to reserve two spaces or book a group space.

I agree with a lot of the comments that mention the additional stress that a large group like this puts on the plumbing and infrastructure. I think there's also an issue of all the additional vehicles for a group that size.

We post our limits, ask at the time or reservation how many are in the group and warn you that we don't make exceptions. We aren't stupid, we can count to seven.
We have a six person limit because it works for us. The facilities are sized for a certain number of people. Each additional person in a site adds to the usage of the facilities. One or two groups of 6 plus people can quickly overwhelm the restrooms. With only 1 RV there is only one toilet and sink for everyone in that RV, so naturally everyone else heads for the park's when it is occupied. Often, when returning to the park from the day's activities, everyone in the group needs to use the restroom for something, be it the toilet, brushing teeth, fixing hair, taking showers etc. That one group of 10 people would take up nearly entire restroom capacity of the park. Have two or three of those groups, and the other 97 reservations will be out of luck for hours at a time. Large groups just don't work in our parks.
OH, we also require an RV on each reserved site, so booking two sites doesn't work for us either. It isn't about the money, it's about the comfort of ALL of our guests, not the convenience of one group.

Reserve two adjacent sites.

Some day you will have the pleasure of camping next to a rowdy bunch of 15 people in one site....

Only exception might be two parents with their own children only (single family unit).
