Looking for a spot in or near Bend, OR

I'm trying to find a campground in or near Bend, OR over the July 4th weekend and can't find a single opening. Therefore, we need to find someplace to boondock for three days.

Anyone have any idea where a good spot may be?

Thank you for the info, Lucius. I've been there also and your response is the most helpful.

Not you again, EsoxLucius!!!!

We have used Black Pine Springs many, many times since 1974!! There have been a 40' Class A, a 35 ft 5th, and many others over the supposed 25ft "limit". Our trailer is 34ft oal, and we have no problem entering and maneuvering within the campground. It is actually a very large open area below the main road with quite a few places to park and camp.

As a note, the first picture in your informative link, is not within the campground, but down a narrow fire road about a mile from Black Pine Springs. It is a great site, but difficult to get to with anything over 25ft. It is a hunting camp along the ditch created for the spring water to flow down to the irrigation areas. That one, I would not try with anything like the OP's rig. We have used it a few times with previous, smaller trailers. The other pics are of the main camp areas, below 3 Creeks Road.

Can't always believe the online sites for totally accurate info, that is why I asked the questions in my "Yaak" thread which had many really unhelpful comments!!!! Local info, or experience is always better to ask for!!!

Totally boondocking, good paved road to the entrance, and usually fairly quiet even on holiday weekends. Water is nearby, small creek fed by the springs in the hillside.
RV length limit is 25 feet. Nice spot though. http://www.campgroundsoregon.com/oregon_campgrounds/black_pine_springs_campground.html

That's good advice. I went ahead and purchased tickets for the Olympic pre-trials in Eugene. Hey, if you can't beat 'em, might as well join 'em.

100%....good for you.

Maybe I should ask this...do you need or want to be in Bend over that weekend? If not...maybe you could throw out the anchor somewhere else? Where you coming in from?
I'm coming from Eugene and already have contingent plans for Eugene (Water and Electric Only).

It's a good thing too because of the holiday weekend plus the Olympic pretrials that weekend.

Unless the crowds for the quilt show the following Saturday get there early. There usually isn't much to be found around Sisters during quilt show week.

Thanks,

I must have called at least 20 different parks around the area and they all say it's going to be crazy because of the holiday plus the pre-olympic trials.

Oh man, no matter where you go, it's going to be busy. If you go east a bit on #20, you'll see Badlands Rock Trailhead...but I think that the crowds will be crippling.
