Maine, Nova Scotia, PEI, Quebec in 2019

My husband will be retiring at the end of this year. We are planning our first retirement trip next summer to Maine (Acadia NP and possibly near Baxter SP), Nova Scotia, PEI, and Quebec.

We have a 40’ 5th wheel with 3 slides and a Chevy 3500 diesel longbed truck...we take up a lot of room!

I am looking for suggestions on campgrounds that can accommodate us...specifically near Baxter (Medway?), Nova Scotia, PEI, and Quebec. We have been to Acadia many times, but would welcome others thoughts on campgrounds there.

Also, I would welcome any suggestions on places to see in these areas and along the way...we don’t have a timeframe...just want to see what is there....

Thank you...

Additional ramblings:

We enjoyed the Alexander Graham Bell Museum in Baddeck, NS as well as the Fortress of Louisbourg.

The Middle Head Trail, Ingonish (on Cape Breton) is our favorite hike.

Wonderful chowder from the Chowder House in Neil's Harbor (Cape Breton)

Speaking of food, if you like lobster (Sarah) or salads (me) Fisherman's Wharf, North Rustico, PEI.

If you are doing Nova Scotia and PEI, go to Nova Scotia first and take ferry to PEI. Leave PEI on the Confederation Bridge. Since one doesn't pay to enter PEI, it is cheaper that way.
Tom

I don't get how it can be cheaper ! You pay the ferry to get to PEI and you pay the Confederation bridge on your way back !

From my original post: Since one doesn't pay to enter PEI, it is cheaper that way.

To expand on that and spud1957's response, It doesn't matter whether one goes in on the bridge or on the ferry, one does not pay a fee. When one leaves, one pays for the round trip. The round trip fare for the bridge is at least 40% cheaper than the ferry (assuming vehicle is less than 20 feet in length.) For us, motorhome and toad, the ferry would cost $125, the bridge would cost $63.

Funny how people say that a certain campground is THE WAY TO GO! One person's preference is not the same as another one. We all have different tastes
We've been to Cavendish Campground, and then Sunset Campground. We loved both of them. In August we are trying New Glasgow Campground.....it's got great reviews. We just love going to different places.

One other possible Idea, we took the 6hr high speed ferry out of portland ME to yarmouth NS which saved time. This way we were able to do a continuous loop through NS, PEI, NB and back down the coast of ME.

Go over the Confederation bridge it is an experience in it's self, very cool!

Cavendish Campground in PEI is the way to go.

Enjoy & safe travels!

Thank you all for wonderful campground and attraction suggestions. The NS-PEI ferry sounds interesting. When I was about 7 (many, many....many moons ago) we visited PEI and the ferry was the only way to get there. I remember my dad taking me down to where cars, etc were...even train cars! It would be a “blast from the past” for me.....

Some rambling thoughts.

We can't go that route without making a stop at Saint Andrews by the Sea and Kiwanis Ocean Front Campground at the mouth of the Bay of Fundy. A must see is Van Horn Estate on Minister Island. While in Saint Andrews by the Sea, we will take a day trip to Saint John.

In Nova Scotia, we love Cape Breton and stay at Broad Cove Campground

On PEI, we stay at Parks Canada Cavendish Campground. A big attraction in Cavendish is Green Gables Heritage Place.

We will be staying at Pine Grove CG in Medway, Camden Hills State Park, and Narrows Too CG in Trenton in late June/July. Those were my chooses after much research. This will be our first trip to New England.
