Hello everyone, I will be going to the Memphis in May Festival for the first time. I have a 24 ft Jamboree Class C and am wondering about a good convenient campground to use. I will definitely be going to the BBQ cook off.

The river has receded and TS is in the process of cleaning up. WE were there Sunday afternoon and they were hoping to have space available this past Monday. Call before you go. The river made a mess down there.

We visited TO Fuller S.P. and I would stay there in a heartbeat. They have a golf course and a Indian museum that you can visit while there.

I am hearing a lot of votes for Tom Sawyer and have heard from friends that I would probably like TO Fuller also. I thank you all for your input. I will not be dragging a toad.

We stayed at Tom Sawyer over the summer and it was great. Easy access across the river to Memphis.

OP - do you have a toad? Parking for a "C" could easily be a nightmare in downtown, toad not so much, but be prepared for an extended walk. Also, acquiring judging credentials should be done several months in advance, it is not offered at the "big" contest in May, however, very, very good BBQ is offered for sale by vendors at the contest. If you know a team that is participating, it's a much different story.

We went to the Memphis In May venue several years ago, unless they have changed the venue all of the competitors are not open to the public. You will have to go back into "town" and eat good BBQ at a sit down restaurant. Have fune.

We live in West Memphis and Tom Sawyer is a hidden jewel. The one road into the park is ok. I wont' say great but its easily traveled in your mh. The cg is isolated from town and the owners are great and we feel completely safe there. The BBQ fest is downtown on the river so the drive over is a snap. Get on I-40 and take the Riverside exit and you are there. Parking is another story!!! Enjoy Memphis.

Just some information about the cook off. If you go on Thursday when it opens between 11:00am and 1:00pm they will let you in free. Do not expect to sample the BBQ unless you sign up to be a judge and pay a fee to go thru their judging school where you will be trained and certified. DW and I spent an enjoyable time at the cool off a couple of years back and what I saw on tv and what one could bring in is totally different. No coolers, no sampling BBQ unless you go to judge school and then you only get to judge 3 samples.

Memphis in May is at Tom Lee Park right on the Mississippi just off Beal St close to downtown, Shelby Forest is a long drive that's why Tom Sawyers is the closest, it is on the river in Arkansas. There is also Southaven RV park just down the road in Mississippi. just do a search of the area but listen to what the local folks have to say that closer does not mean safer.

We camped at the Shelby State park last May it was a very nice campground we enjoyed it.

It is located in Millington which is north of Memphis. Not sure where the BBQ cook off is. But if towards the north side I would recommend Shelby.

I live in Memphis. If I were to camp here, I would stay at Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park. Tom Sawyer is a distant second choice. The Agricenter campground is far behind Tom Sawyer. Definitely do NOT stay at the Graceland campground.

A neighbor who owns an RV camps almost exclusively at Shelby Forest (that is what the locals call it). I never understood camping 30 minutes from home.
