Military Campgrounds

I subscribe to an RV Newsletter. In the last issue, they said changes have been made so that any veteran with a DD 214 can now use military campgrounds. They didn't give anymore info on it. I Googled it and haven't found any more info on it although the info I came across is at least a year old. Have any otherveterans heard anything about this?

I believe this is the current  https://support.campendium.com/hc/en-us/articles/5380188691604-U-S-Military-Campgrounds-Info-Eligibi...

It is getting very difficult to use a military campground for short time stays. Many are using it for winter loactions and long term stay even though regulations say you must limit stay to 14 days. Some locales just require some visitors to just move to a different site.

I have the actual military ID card for a 100% P&T disabled vet now for many years and of course use all the on post shopping, recreation, transient quarters, library, gym, etc and RV parks.  I have read elsewhere that  vets with only the VA medical ID card must stop at the information office at main gate to obtain an on base pass each time they visit so they should take time to go to a military base DEERS office with proper paperwork and get the actual military ID card as I did.  I simply drive thru the gate like active military with only a brief ID check by the APs or MPs.  They of course need the VA letter stating they are 100% P&T to get the ID.  Just saying.

Thank you for providing more details.  Yes, I believe you are correct.  Less than  100% DAV must stop at the main gate to get a pass each time we enter a base.   We will be trying this for the first time later this month.

As of a 2020 DOD regulation change expanding access to certain military facilities, only veterans who have a service connected disability, with a Veteran Health Identification Card(VHIC) can use military MWR facilities like campgrounds.

Yep. That sucks. I guess you could have been awarded the Medal of Honor and still not get in. Well, now I know. Thanks to all who answered.

I had heard the same thing late last year, but with no corroborating evidence, I decided it was just so much rumor passed off as truth. Nobody seems to do any fact checking any more.

Typically those types of benefits go only to retirees and some special cases like disabled vets. If anyone with DD214 can participate, reserving these very limited RV spaces will be next to impossible, so I would not support it.

As a 100% disabled veteran and Purple Heart recipient I have been using full facilities of military basses now and for several years that include staying at their base RV parks and on base Inns such as the AF Inns. I am not retired military but a former Army Vietnam vet and Army Guard medevac pilot. I have held a military DAV ID card for many years.

I can also fly space A on military aircraft anywhere within CONUS and U.S. territories. Just returned from a great fishing and camping trip staying at Air Force base RV park and California state parks.

Recent changes allow vets with any amount of a VA disability rating to use on base MWR recreation facilities and PX plus commissary privileges just like me to include full work out gym facilities.

I save a great deal of money using all base facilities and the Air Force has always been very good to this Army guy starting in Vietnam with an AF C-141 AirEvac flight to Japan and then flying space A all over the USA many years ago plus a back seat ride in a T-33 jet trainer as a CAP cadet in 64. Cheers to the brave

I read the original article and responded directly to them trying to set the record straight. We'll see if they 'clarify' in the next issue.

One troll (new member) kind of stank up the thread. Sorry to see that. And sorry that the thread is so short after nuking his posts and the responses.
