Missouri state parks

So I'll be heading into Missouri next week and will spend about a week east of hwy 63 going south to north. I'm looking for water and electric hook ups at a minimum. I would like to be on a lake or a nice clear stream/river with hiking trails. My main question is what your favorite parks are and why.
Thanks in advance

Jon
  • I don't know if it is true for all Missouri state parks, but the Trail of Tears SP near Jackson, MO has GFCI's on their 30 amp hook ups. One of the few places I've been that has them on connections other than the 15 amp receptacles. A good park right on the Mississippi, providing you like trains!
  • Not sure if this is an area convenient for you, but we stayed at Truman State park near Warsaw and really enjoyed it. It had electric only. Water and dump station is available. The section we were in had a view of the water and a short walk to the shoreline. When we were there it was the end of April, so nice and quiet. We stayed in the Racoon Ridge of the park.
  • Look up Indian Creek Campground on Mark Twain Lake. Its off Hwy 24 between Paris and Monroe City. Campsites are far apart, lots of wooded area, very private. Also lots of full hookups, and most sites are water/electric.
  • XX to Mark Twain State Park, just east of Paris, MO big lake
or, on 63 itself, at Moberly, is Rothwell City Park and a nice little rv park with full hookups.
and north of Moberly, at Macon, on the west side of town off 36, is the Long Branch State Park. On a lake.
  • State park and several COE parks around Mark Twain Lake.
Great campground south of Hannibal at Mark Twain Cave.
St. Joe SP southwest of St. Louis has a paved walking biking trail.
Our favoite is Johnson Shut Ins SP.

All have some hiking/biking areas and all are on/near water except St. Joe which is in the old lead mining area.
