Myrtle Beach Travel Park?

I am looking for first hand experiences with the Myrtle Beach Travel Park. I have been to the website and the usual sites for checking something like this out. I would like some inside information from those of you that have stayed there. I am attempting to get a “feel” for the campground. Are quiet hours enforced? Are the campsites arranged well? What part of the campground offers the better campsites?

The location appears to be ideal as far as getting to and from points of interest and activities in the beach area.

We have camped in Myrtle Beach before, but never at this campground.

If someone has some pictures, that would be great also. I am always interested in pictures other than what is listed on the website.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

We have been going to this park for 41 years! We used to pay $4.50 for an oceanfront site with hookups. We have stayed at a couple of the other parks, but this is by far our favorite.

Some trips we spend a few days at the S.P at the south end just to do things in that vicinity - then we move to the M.B.T.P. for the remainder of our trip. The location is perfect - easy drive to everything.

We particularly like the fact there are no golf carts tearing around.

MBTP is very dog friendly. We always travel with our two, and you'll see lots of other dogs there. As the above poster said, just the basic usual (common sense) dog rules.

Dog friendly, typical rules about cleaning up after your pet, keep on a leash, and not allowed in buildings.

In the summer dogs aren't allowed on the beach between 8am and 5pm.

We didn't have our dogs there but there were plenty in the cg and it seemed very dog friendly. I believe during at least peak season the hours dogs can be on the beach are restricted but that's about it. I was going to remind you how hot it gets there but since you are from the south already you understand heat!

I am getting a lot of good information here, and I appreciate it. One thing that has not been mentioned is how dog friendly this campground is. I almost always travel with our dog. I know they state they are “pet friendly” on the website.

I ask this because I have been to some places that say they are pet friendly, but they have extreme restrictions. Dogs are only allowed to camp with you in certain parts of the campground and it is not usually a premium area. I have been to a place like this, and I did not know about the additional restrictioins until I arrived.

Been there twice and loved it. Had some washover into the cg due to a hurricane spinning offshore but they'll keep the front sites empty if necessary. Staff is wonderful, campground and facilities are amazingly clean and beach is gorgeous. Hubby and son used their showers right after they cleaned and had some clothing damaged due to bleach (they didn't wait until things were dry). Campground offered to pay for damaged clothing. It wasn't much-just a couple of t-shirts-but they took full responsibility. As soon as we get another unit that's one of the first places we are going to head to.

We've been there through many nasty storms over the years and typically things just seem to dry up within an hour or so after the rain stops. The roads are graded after each rain and so there is never any issues. Even after riding out the tail end of Hurricane Frances there in 2004 it was never a mess.

We now have a winter seasonal there (October to April) and it's really a great place; great beach, nice pools, lazy river and very well managed.

I have never heard anyone complain much on this. I only have heard of storms where the tide washes through openings in the dunes and will flood some of the sites closer to the ocean or near a dune opening. I have only stayed up in the more wooded areas. Very nice pool areas, cafe, and covered picnic tables with a stage there in the table area.

Going to be at MBTP April 3-7. First time there and really looking forward to trying a different MP campground. With the sand roads and grass/sand sites, how big a mess does it get when there is heavy rain?

I have always thought it kind of funny how many folks rave on the southern cg's on the paved roads and concrete padded sites and then call MBTP their favorite where every site and every road is sand with no pavement. It's amazing what we will put up with if the "atmosphere" is better at one or the other. I like them all and mostly just enjoy being at MB and at THE ocean.

We have been going for the last 6 years - used to go to Apache - spots became to hard to hard to get in and out of. Heading to Myrtle Beach Travel Park again this spring for 2 weeks. The "beach" sites are pull through so it makes it easy to get in and out of. North of the campground is a large preserve which makes for a great beach walk. Park is well maintained and staffed.

Agree that it is the best CG in MB area. Sites are maybe just a little larger than most and those in the wooded area seem just a "smidge" wider. Don't think any CG down here really enforces stated "quiet hours" but the clientele at MBTP seems to be just a bit more respectful than the huge ocean front CG's farther south. Maybe because it's a bit smaller than those, maybe it's because only permanent campers can use golf carts, maybe because of other issues, but it seems a bit more 'sane' here than at others. It does depend on how close you want to be to the ocean which areas are the "best". Wherever you go to camp in this area from April through September, its a zoo!!! So many families love MB as a vacation destination. If quietness and the enforcement of rules matters would never suggest one visit a CG down here from mid May through the rest of the month, and definitely not over Memorial Day weekend. Motorcycles gather for two huge rallies and while its fun it is rowdy! Might want to check www.rvparkreviews.com for more comments from those who have been there.

We have visited MBTP each year for the last three years. Top notch!!
There is a site for all your needs, whether oceanfront, lakefront,
wooded or in between. Both heated and non-heated pools and the lazy river is a relaxing days-end . Always quiet except for maybe Easter weekend. Close enough to restaurant row, exceptional golfing and great seafood. WalMart and malls nearby. Calabash NC just a few minutes away. We are returning again near the end of April. Oh, and did I mention the beach? Awesome!!!
