Good advice to make VanHorn TX and overnight and when rush hour would be done drive thru ElPaso into Las Cruces or further. We went thru about 11am on Sunday and traffic wasn't bad. We use Passport America for a 50% discount and stay at Desert Willow rv park. We also stop in Deming where there are a couple of participating parks.
After going through El Paso once on I-10 during road construction we gave up on it, we now leave Van Horn and go north towards Gauadaloupe Mountains and then west where we hit the 375 loop on the east part of El Paso and then back onto I-10, we then head for Deming NM. You go over Franklin Mountain in El Paso but it isn't a big hill. The drive is very scenic looking at the Guad mountains in the distance
iโm assuming you mean Tx54/US 180/Tx375 back to I-10. what are those roads like? 2-lane, 4-lane? condition?
54 and 180 are 2 lane, 54 has a couple of dips that you need to slow down a bit, but well marked. 180 is also 2 lane but they have put in a couple of passing lanes recently, 375 is a divided 4 lane. They are not busy and passing is easy, much less of a hassle than I-10 through El Paso proper.
thanks. so the road conditions are generally good? (potholes, broken pavement, etc?)

You need to stay on I-10 or below it. Do not even think about going any where north of I-10.
How much time have you allowed? Remember, 1-10 is almost 1000 miles across Texas, so that will take a while. Where in Arizona are you going? I would suggest you make Van Horn your last night in Texas, and the next day drive clear to at least Las Cruces - we usually go to Deming because we're Escapees and there is an Escapees park in Deming.
