New England Campgrounds

Hello all !!

We are from Mass.. south of boston .. been camping for many years with friends. Looking this year for a nice clean / quiet campground with full hook ups... looking for "adult" camping meaning we won't have our grown kids with us. Looking for that hidden gem of a campground. We will consider any where in new england. We KNOW we are late looking for a place in July ~~~ but just thought I would throw it out there .. if any one can recommend places.. and WHY they recommend it....

Also, I am on google maps, look at comments first... and if I find a bad review I move on .. I know that's not the right thing to do ... head is spinning .. what do YOU guys do ?!?!?

    Two of our favorite campgrounds are Ashuelot River Campground in Keene N.H. and Pine Hollow Campground in Pownal V.T.

    Both are on the quiet side with lots of options for bicycling, Hiking and Kayaking.

    I'll tell you some of our favorites but you have to promise not to tell anyone! ;)

    Champlain Adult Campground

    Winhall Brook COE

    West Thompson Lake COE

    Grandview Campresort & Cottages

    All four places are quiet,well maintained, has respectful campers, caters to older campers and in beautiful areas

    edit: I just realized you asked for full hookups... the COE's are only W/E but you may want to consider them anyways, I think you will not be disappointed

    curious what is COE ?!!

    Now my head is really spinning ... hmmm how do YOU pick just the right campground ?!

    Am I the only one that reads / checks location via google satellite and read reviews and photos.. photos speaks volumes... I think our #1 priority is space between sites.. we are NOT fans of hearing the neighbors washing dishes/ showering etc...
    KEEP The suggestions coming ... LOVE LOVE This website !!!!!

    Army Corps of Engineers

    Set up a profile here https://www.recreation.gov and you will be able to book them as along most other campgrounds under the national parks umbrella.

    http://www.rvparkreviews.com is also a great source for locating campgrounds, check out their forum too, helpful folks!

    COE = (Army) Corps of Engineers

    I've been to Apple Island Resort, and thought it fairly nice and generally along the lines of what you want. The sites are somewhat closer together than I would prefer, but otherwise it checks most of the important boxes you want: full hookups, plenty of grownup-oriented activities in the area, and the Lake Champlain islands in general are pleasant.

    I do hear consistently very good reviews of Lake George RV Park (which is nearly in New England). It may be more of a family-oriented rather than adult-oriented place for you. I have not stayed there myself. The Lake George area does have a great many things to do, many touristy but others less so.

    SO you have probably camped at Pinewood in Plymouth. We went there last year, and it was really good except for the two groups of adults who pulled in the same day as us. They couldnt drink or curse or yell enough. It was all about them. But the cg was very nice. Youve probably been there. So the further away from the big city the better. I would use the search function in rv.net, as well as Woodalls. Probably private small parks will limit families with kids.

    Wampatuck State Park in Hingham,Ma.

    W/E hookups, dump station.

    Quiet, couple of hundred "private" spacious sites.

    As far as reviews go, somebody is always going to complain about nothing and somebody will be the type that sees roses in anything. Read ALL reviews and look for patterns, i.e. multiple complaints about the same thing. Then decide if it's something you can deal with. Also look to see if the complainers have reviewed elsewhere and see if they only post bad things. You have to work with the law of averages so-to-speak.
