Yellowstone Park first visit and a very short one? Looking for an RV park recommendation, and possible touring options? We're planning a one night stay near or in the west entrance, then touring the next day before heading out to the east. I know it's a short visit, but it's all we have this trip.

We just left Yellowstone. I don't know how it is possible to cover anything other than a very small fraction of the park in one day, at most of that will be a drive by. Aside from the distances that need to be covered, the park is enormous, traffic will keep you at a crawl for long periods of time. Any wildlife visible from the road will result in a long and lengthy traffic jam. You won't cover a lot of miles in a short period. Having said that, it appears that every RV campground inside the park has a "Full" sign out front. Chuck

You don't say what type of site you need, for FHU's, Fishing Bridge is the only CG IN Yellowstone that has them, IF you can even get a site there, if you can get by for one day without hookups, try Madison, or Bridge Bay, staying IN the park will save you time driving to & from your CG outside, this will give you more touring time.
I'm sure that after this one day, you will realize that you absolutely need to come back for a week minimum. Have a good time, where ever you stay.

X3 !

If you want to drive up to 2 1/2 hours one way to the other side of the park!

Not worth it! Unless you have to have cell phone data service or a pool, stay in the park!

X2! We've been to Grizzly twice. Everything in town is walking distance, lots of good restaurants.

There won't be any spots at Fishing Bridge unless you'd happen to catch a cancellation. We made our reservations for Aug 17 a year ago.

You didn't say when you would be there. Due to the eclipse, Aug 21, reservations will be hard to find.

You'll want to stay in Fishing Bridge. That worked out perfect for us. We were there for 4 days. With a lot of driving you can see the 2 loops in 2 days. Lots of driving. I was actually somewhat disappointed. Maybe I did too much research and it took from the first time feeling of seeing everything. I'm also very hard to impress!

Baker's Hole Campground is a couple of miles north of West Yellowstone and you can usually snag a spot if you arrive around noon. Some sites have 50 amps - no sites have water or sewer but water is available near the entrance.

Here's a blog post I wrote on Yellowstone in One Day -- actually we caught the last eruption of Old Faithful the night before and then started the next morning with Norris Basin - lots of photos to give you an idea of our loop.
