New York City Area

The wife and I are thinking of visiting New York City and will be coming from South Carolina. I have read about the one RV Park that is in the city and have seen a couple of nice parks mentioned about an hour away put they are all north of the city.

Anyone have any ideas of a park south of New York City that has easy access to the city via the train/subway/park and ride?

Thanks,
Tom

Newburgh NY KOA is where we stayed. Beautiful park and you can take the train in Beacon NY into the city (about an hour). Or, the KOA also has a tour bus that leaves the KOA at 7am and takes you into the city. Hits all the tourist spots. Not cheap but well worth it in our opinion.

Thanks. I had it in my mind that Liberty Harbor would be a pain to get to. I guess we will plan on going there. It certainly saves a lot of travel time and expense as noted.

If you stay anyplace except Liberty Harbor, you will use up a lot of your time and budget just getting into the city. Commuter trains run less frequently and cost far more than the regular PATH subway a few blocks from Liberty.

Liberty is not a pain to get to; it's a mile off the highway, on a good-size road. A straight shot through several traffic light intersections, then you're at the turn to the road to the marina.

You exit right off he turnpike go under it and turn on the road. It is about a mile up. Easy to get to. I drive a 42 foot coach and pull a car. It is not a hard one. Croton on the Hudson s harder to get into. Long run on city streets that get narrow.

I have been looking at Croton Park. I also have access to West Point but Croton looks better. I was hoping to find something like Croton but on the south side and not to have to drive the extra hour north of NYC. Liberty looks like it might be a pain to get two with all the traffic. Not sure I want to pull the RV in an unknown area with lots of congestion.

Thanks,
Tom

South of New York City is the Atlantic Ocean; so there are no parks there (sorry couldn't resist). Liberty is in New Jersey to the west of Manhattan. Croton Park in Croton on the Hudson is a county park about 45 min north. Train station is next door and it drops you in GRand Central. Long Island has a few state parks but they are out on the island and the bridges and parkways aren't fun to navigate if you aren't a local. Liberty and Croton are the best bets.

Liberty Marina and RV Park is well suited for a visit to New York City. I won't say any more about it because your post seems to indicate you already know about it and want to find other rv parks. If you do want to find out more about Liberty Marina and RV Park you can certainly do a search on here as well as looking at their web site.
