Fifty years ago, I went to Niagra Falls, just to see the falls. What a novel idea. Actually pulled right up to the falls, dropped a nickle into the parking meter and looked over the rail at the falls. No Ferris wheel, no Ripley's Believe It or Not, no Wax Museum. Why did I even bother to go. ๐Ÿ™‚

Ya, I`m surprised it was popular at all back then!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰ much better with thousands of people crowded around and bumping into everyone!!! :B

I went for the Falls and a seeing them in different aspects, boat, behind the falls and the walk at the base of the American Falls. after that I had enough!

Since you have your passports might as well stay on the Canadian side. The KOA Lundy's Lane is our favorite place to stay. It has an indoor pool and hot tubs for the cooler temps now.
More things to see and do including visit to Niagara on the Lake and of course the winery tours. Lots of choices.

Did you search this Forum for Niagara Falls in the RV Parks section? What about Lockport, NY? Take a Erie Canal boat cruise; and watch your head going thru a town!

We stayed at the Jellystone in Canada. Decent place that had a shuttle to the Falls. I don't know if they still have the shuttle running this late in the year, at least during the week.

+1 on Four Mile Creek SP. Nice sites, right on the lake, and your sticker lets you park at the state parking lot close to the falls for free. Definitely go on both sides (US & Canada), different experience and views. If you park in the lot on the US side it's an easy (and cool) walk over the bridge to the Canadian side, just don't forget the passports. You can get the Maid of the Mist on either side (a must) but they have different packages with other stuff. We especially liked the Cave of the Winds tour on the US side - you hike out onto a deck where you are standing right under the Bridal Falls - they show it on one of the Thompson Watersealer commercials.

Cave of the Winds

The comparable tour on the Canadian side where you "go under the falls" was disappointing - you're in a concrete tunnel and look out a little opening and see the backside of the big falls, much more fun to walk out in your souvenir poncho and flip-flops and have it crashing over you. If you have time head east and check out the Finger Lakes area of New York - lots of state parks with waterfalls (smaller) and tons of wineries.

Back when I was still flying small planes, I flew from Montreal into Buffalo, NY. to clear customs. The mist over the falls was visible for miles before I could actually see the falls. If you can do it, try out a helicopter ride over the falls. Its a view you'll never forget.
Retired and visiting as much of this beautiful country as I can.

If you can and you enjoy history, visit Ft Niagara at the north end of the Niagara river. Also, go for a ride on the Erie Canal.

Visited Niagara falls in July. We stayed at Fourmile creek state park. We prefer state parks, the sites were very nice, ours was right on lake Ontario. Its about 15 minutes from the falls.

As for campgrounds, there are a couple up Lundys Lane....the NF KOA, has lots of amenities, especially if the kids are along. Its a bit pricey being a tourist area, but drops a bit after Labour Day....A bit further up is Scotts....its cheaper but more basic.

Are you planning on camping on the Canadian side? If so, I would go online and check out campsite availability.

There is a lot to do on the Canadian side, sorry to say I have not visited the American side.

Marine land, Fort Erie, Busy downtown Lundy's Lane with museums, arcades, etc. Casino, Helicopter ride over falls. You can walk under the horseshoe falls, whirlpool rafting. Shopping. Wine tours, there are lots of vineyards. There are quite a few market gardens. Fresh peaches, grapes, nectarines etc. Also not far is Niagra on the Lake, very pretty town with beautiful gardens, shopping, theatre.
Have a great time.
