Northern Illinois southern Wisconsin

Hi
We are looking for campgrounds in the Rockford ILL to Madison WI area for next year. WE would prefer full service with at least a 30 amp service.
We stayed for the first time at the Army Core of engineers at Rend lake in southern Illinois. What a wonderful campground. Paved sites and plenty of space. We stayed 4 nights and enjoyed every minute.
  • the wisconsin dells is an interesting place, lots of campgrounds, but busy in summer. but what are you interested in? have kids? etc.?

  • Rustic Barn CG is very nice, and run by really nice folks. Spent a week there this last summer, lots to do in the area and close to Dubuque, IA and Galena, IL.
  • we are mainly antique shopping and it is just the wife and I. WE live in central Illinois and typically go south such as southern Indiana and Missouri. We have been to Door County several times and love it. We are looking for campgrounds even as far north as Baraboo which would be about 4 hours. so any help would be appreciated.
  • Two possibilities near some antique shops in Richmond, IL: Chain o' Lakes State Park in Spring Grove, IL and Bong SRA in Kansasville, WI. They were our go-to campgrounds (especially Bong) the last 10-15 years we lived in that area. Both have electric sites, and the CGs have showerhouses and dump stations. I recommend reservations unless you go midweek; they can be pretty popular. For Chain o' Lakes, I definitely recommend Fox Den CG. Nicer than Honeysuckle Hollow, more space between the sites.
  • If you love antiques definitely visit Galena, IL. You can spend two days there, we did!
