Hello,

Looking to take a trip to visit Ocean City, MD this summer. Found two cmpgrounds that I would like to get opinions on.

The first is Fort Whaley/Frontier Town. Looks like this may be 2 seperate CG's, what is each like?

The second is Castaways RV Resort.

Like to hear what you have to say about either.

Thanks in advance,

Ryan

In the rural area that Worcester Co is in, the land at least for Fort Whaley and Bay Club is already zoned correctly. I should have used planning and or zoning stage in my earlier post. But yes, this year out except for the Fort Whaley sites. Looks like the 611 site could be a fight, but not connected to the others that I know of.
I am connected to the area, and the lawyer handling this always gets it done. There is a good ole boy network there like no other.

Thanks for the information everyone. Sounds like both will be added to our "to do" list. 600+ campsites, that is amazing. I think the only CG that large that we have been to was in Disney, Fort Wilderness.

Then you've never been to Myrtle Beach?? A few huge CG's down there.:C

Ocean City, Maryland is our favorite vacation destination. A days drive for us, and plenty to do in the area. We always go to Frontiertown for all it has to offer. Castaway's is nice, but we prefer Frontiertown.

That's funny while we do enjoy Frontiertowne and will go there this summer. We also plan to make another trip to your way to Scussett Beach in Cape Cod!

Thanks Bucky. Not trying to high jack the thread. Just curious about possible future plans around OC. Definitely a few years off if at all.:)

Ringer, the new sites before zoning are these.
The closed golf course on 611 just south of Frontier Town is slated for 300 and change sites. The local rich people are raising heck about it. Over 100 attended the county meeting about it.
Bay Club, the golf course west of Berlin on Liberty Town Rd is slated to close one of their 18 hole courses and turn that into 300 or so sites.
Fort Whaley is adding 60 sites.
Should get interesting, but the local big money is behind it all so it will fly right on thru like everything else over there.

If the idea is still in the zoning phase it's still at least a couple of years away and not quite a done deal.
I don't think it will impact the OP who is looking to camp this summer

Frontiertowne and Ft. Whaley have similar themes. Both very family friendly.
Frontiertowne is closer to the coast (bay front) about 10 minutes from Ocean Beach. Frontierswomen is located closer to all the attractions. Lots of people and lots of action at Frontiertowne. Frontiertowne is busy but has always been well run
Fort Whaley is about 10 miles farther west away from everything. The overall atmosphere is much more quiet and relaxing vs. Frontiertowne.
Castaways is also a very popular place. A bit more adult oriented and more upscale. They have breed restrictions for dogs and prices are a bit expensive.
Castaways also has an on site Tiki bar and premium sites. Castaways is also bay front and located close to the attractions

Sun Coast has taken over all three camp grounds mentioned here. There have been some big changes at Frontier Town so if the water park is important to you check to be sure it's still included.
There are almost 700 new sites scheduled to come on line in the area soon, maybe the price pressure will lessen.

Bucky...how are these almost 700 new sites coming about?? New CG, Expansion of existing CG??

We have stayed at both Frontier Town and Ft Whaley, both of them more or less geared to families with kids, of the two, Frontier Town is the better one. Besides being bigger there is more to do. If staying at Ft Whaley, you do have passes to the Water Park at Frontier Town. We also have stayed at Castaways, and had a great time, yes it cost a little more, but is a bit nicer, with more water front area, if you choose. Good Luck and Happy Camping !!
