Oregon is booked. Now looking for boondocking

Hello. I should have listened when everyone was telling me that the Oregon coast campground fill up fast. I tried booking at Fort Stevens, Cape Lookout, etc. for August and they are all booked up.

If I can't find a full hookup camp site then maybe we can go boondocking. The RV has a generator and big tanks so we could "rough it" in comfort. I just don't know where to go. I live in Portland and would like to stay within 250 miles of home.

I was thinking that maybe some of you may be aware of some other camp grounds that would fit our needs. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

We have a 40' toy hauler.
A family will be camping with us in a tent so we need a camp site that is friendly to RVs and tents.
Lots of kids with us.
We would like to be close to the coast with beach access.
We do not have to go to the coast. We are flexible.
Looking for someplace fun for the kids.

Please ask questions if you need more info.

Thanks!!!

We very recently (memorial day) stayed at the KOA across from Ft Stevens and liked it. Pick your site carefully, as some are parking lot and some are very nice. Look at the map. While more expensive, the site we had (which I think was 221 or 220) was great. And the staff was super friendly (and I mean the staff was just great).I don't generally like KOA's for how crowded they seem, but this one was nice.

Yes, thanks for the suggestions. The website has a handy "flexible dates" function. Unfortunately, we are looking for weekend time slots.

Yes, we were lucky enough to book there several weeks ago for August. So one of our weekends is covered. ๐Ÿ™‚

Might be a PITA but you can always reserve two different sites for the whole time. One for a few days that's open and another for the rest. At least you're there. Having a 40' TH would make it easy. Just throw everything including the tent in the TH.

There are numerous commercial rv parks and County Parks along the coast in Tillamook and Clatsop counties. You can search for them on County websites and RV Park Reviews.

We have had good luck with the OR St Parks getting in mid day and waiting for a site to open up. Some are reservation only and some are no reservation and most have both. Can check on line. Our favorite OR park is Ainsworth in the Columbia River Gorge and it is a no reservation cmpground. Even on the coast during season we generally have been able to get into St Parks without resevations, only a couple times had to go commercial.

We stayed at the KOA by Ft Stevens once, it was nice, it has an indoor pool, bouncing pillow for the kids, breakfast, etc. We didn't have reservations, we were travelling on the fly and Ft Stevens was full the first night we got there so we stayed at the KOA. The only downside was they had some crazy tame raccoons that walked aruond during the day, and that freaked me out!

We book a full nine month's out. Even doing that you have to be on the computer or phone first thing in the morning.
