Overnight stops in Florida panhandle

Are there any places that allow overnight stops near Tallahassee? I like to get most of the driving out of the way day one and will be staying in RV parks as I visit areas further south and into the Keys. I already checked the Wal-Mart near I-10 in Tallahassee and clearly see their sign posted from looking at google street view. I'm only stopping for a few hours sleep so roadside parks or truck stops would be fine.
Any ideas?
  • Check in 'advance' before heading out to a Walmart to stay overnight at in Florida.

MANY Walmarts and store parking lots in Florida do NOT allow overnight parking.
  • If you are stopping for less than 3 hours, it is below the limit allowed at Florida rest stops. Stop there.

At the rest stops, most LEO and security will not put a sleepy driver back on the road even if it has been more than 3 hours.
  • Quick look at RV Parky shows there are a couple of Walmarts that do allow overnight parking as well as a Flying J in the area that might work.
  • I ask one of the LEO at a Florida rest area about staying the night and he said he wasn't there to keep anyone from staying the night he was there to make sure there wouldn't be any trouble. One night I stayed and ask the officer to keep an eye out that I was staying the night, he said ok.
  • I'd like to follow up on this after a great Florida trip. We stayed at the Bass Pro Shop in Tallahassee both going and coming back. I e-mailed the store manager in advance and received permission in writing. BPS managers e-mail can be found on the stores website. Happy Trails.
