We checked out Cedar key last March thinking we may spend this coming winter there. We were very disappointed in the Resorts/CGs we looked at. Old. Crowded. Worn out. Poorly landscaped unless you looked a bit inland. But then we found a place, a bit on the high side, but no screen-rooms or gazebos were allowed. That would not work for us. Most of the places we checked out would be OK for a long weekend or even a week, but not for the three months we spend in FL. The little village stores (and docks) were very sad, poor and tired looking. Places were boarded up. The nearest town was something like 25 miles away where there was shopping. We changed our minds about staying there and instead chose a place in the Ocala NF for only $265 a month with shopping 5 miles away.

Here is the RV Parks Review.com for Cedar Key, FL. Looks like Cedar Keys RV Resort has some good ratings and good reviews. The site also lists other parks in that area.

We'll be staying down in Crystal River at Rock Crusher Canyon for a month this coming winter, which isn't far from Cedar Key. I plan to go up and visit Cedar Key while down there.

Add Rainbow Springs just an hour drive from there too! Unlike the nasty black waters of central Florida, Rainbow Springs is the brightest color blue it almost looks fake.

I spent the first 4 years of my snow birding in central Florida. I'm a slow learner. Most the CG's are on the outskirts of cities, overpopulated and many going downhill fast. CG's are sardine houses and zip zero scenery to be found. If old shopping malls are on you list of things to do than you might like central Florida. I couldn't stand it any longer.

Last year I stayed near Rainbow Springs. WHAT a difference, beautiful green trees and grass and the good ole woodsy pine smell like back home without the snow!

I loved it so much I am still here. This area IS in a different planting zone so it does get colder than central Florida but the ambiance for me is WELL worth a couple of cold nights. Which in reality if you are from up North it really is NOT that cold.

And just a note, what some non-Floridians think are no-see-ums can actually be blind mosquitoes that are found around the waters. They are really not mosquitoes and they do not bite and the best part is they are only out for a week or two once a year. Very annoying but at least you know they are around for a very short time. Unlike no-seeums.

You won't be disappointed staying up here in this area. It's just beautiful, numerous places to visit, and of course close to the Gulf.
OMG, I like here so much I'm starting to sound like a travel agency ad!:C

Old native Floridians from around the north central part of the state have long been enamored with the Cedar Key seafood restaurants. It was worth the drive once or twice a month in days gone by. There's a lot of "Old Florida" represented in Levy County: Manatee Springs and Fanning Springs State Parks, Shell Mound Park. Overall, the area is a great place to slow down and relax. Nature is the draw. While I've never camped at CK, Cedar Keys RV Resort gets great reviews on RV Park Reviews.
