Pepe's on the River

Heard a rumor this weekend that they are rebuilding Pepe's on the River which is located south of Mission, Texas. Anyone know for sure? Miss the place.

A piece of history is being restored on the Rio Grande River here in Mission, Texas. The ever popular “Pepe’s On The River” began re-construction in July.

Pepe’s has been a favorite watering hole and eating establishment for over 60 years and every evening beings with live boot stompin music with plenty of suds and vittles.

It’s right next door to one of our favorite lil ol Texas RV Parks.

The riverside attraction has been a popular hangout in Mission since 1964, when farmer Pepe de la Fuente first opened shop and named his restaurant “Pepe’s Backyard.”

With live music on the weekends, pitchers of beer or margarita, and a small dance floor, Pepe’s has been very popular with Winter Texans and with locals all year round.

When they re-open the menu is expected to feature fried shrimp, fried catfish, and BBQ, Pepe’s delivers foods typical of Southern Texas at a decent quality and a good price. They are also likely to offer Tex-Mex dishes like tacos.
