Possible southern Louisana this Feb

Bouncing around the idea of heading down to Tickfaw SP, Fairview SP and there abouts in Feb. Trying to get out of the cold St. Louis weather for a week or two. Been to Fontainebleau SP & Palmetto Island and loved Palmetto. Not big on cajun or spicy food and not city/night clubbing folk at all. History, civil war, sights and nature are more our thing.
OK, my questions are: what can/should we expect weather wise? Any other nice campgrounds in that area that we should see? We're very mobile in our 21 ft B+ with no toad. We are fond of COE parks as a rule as they are generally very nice and very affordable. OH and don't forget good food.
Thanks for any and all suggestions. Guess I gotta get this planned before the DW changes her mind.

A couple of years ago I asked about Lafayette area here and I was so glad that I had. It was a great trip. It was January and the sun was bright and days were in the 60ies. We went to see the Tabasco Museum (Avery Island) and that was cool and to New Iberia and toured a rice factory(Conrad Rice Mill). Also don't miss taking a swamp tour. They are so cool, even in dead of winter. Just north of Baton Rouge is Port Hudson which you might find interesting. (Be careful of the rice factory tour, we were so hungry to try gumbo after the tour that we had to go find a place. The place they sent us to had a sign that had washed out about 10 years ago, and we could just read ".....rant" and it had mix matched tables and chairs, served the gumbo out of styrofoam bowls and it was by far the best gumbo that I ever had.

Morgan City has a city park on the lake. The Carillon nearby is wonderful. So neat to hear the bells peal hourly across Lake Palourde.
Good restaurants, cajun grocery, fishing. fun mardi gras parades and Balls.

OK, there has been a major change of plans. Due to a recent death of a beloved pet, which required boarding in our absence. Amidst that and general discord in our household, we found an opening at Ft. Pickens that will match our original window of travel.
We will spend 5 days at the end of Feb and wing it from there.
Thank you all so very much for all the input. Never know, now we have no time restraints just might end up at Grand Isle.

After reading all the posts, I thought it would be a great place to visit the end of March. From you that have been there about how many days should I give to the area? I plan at staying at Bettys.

garmp, On your way to or from, consider the St. Francisville, La. area (north of Baton Rouge. Port Hudson is just south of St. Francisville and was the last Confederate fortification to fall on The Mississippi River ( surrendered after Vicksburg). The states done a pretty nice job with the battleground. As a Boy Scout, I camped and hiked the area several times, and ran “trout-lines” for catfish when the river was at flood stage during the spring., The St. Francisville area is beautiful and has many homes/plantations on the National Registry, some of which you can tour. There’s also a pretty nice campground (Legacy RV Park) in St. Francisville. It’s not fancy, but will cover all the necessities.

We’ll be down there in April... a few days at Indian Creek (family reunion), and a week or so at Legacy RV Park. Kids, grandkids, and great grandkids in the Zachary area.

I have to say it's a pretty quiet place - that's why we liked it so much. Good for bicycling and walking the beach. One small grocery store about a mile from the park. There are a few little restaurants in town - some were closed for the winter.

It’s been awhile since I was there but there was also a nearby marina with laundry.

We found free laundry facilities at one of the two bathhouses - if my memory is correct, that was in the bathhouse at the east end of the campground near the observation tower.

Harvey had no effect on Louisiana State Parks or any RV park.

Also a tip about Grand Isle SP for everyone. If you want Morning shade and afternoon sun stay at sites 1-25. and if you want morning sun and afternoon shade stay at sites 26-49. I prefer the afternoon shade.

. Colfax RV Park is one of our favorites. The trees have grown and now provide much shade. We love to go there and just do nothing but relax and unwind. Site 16 is our favorite.

If your not into fishing, no reason to go to grand isle really. Flooding shouldn’t be a problem in February at tickfaw or river view. Those issues will be more common in March/April. Bogue chitto sp, fountain blue, and south Toledo bend are my favorite la sp’s. Flooding can be an issue on the lower loop at bogue chitto at anytime. The upper cg has full hookups and we generally prefer it especially during winter.

Grand Isle is great for fishing but is very remote. Good seafood can be had if you talk to the locals. Be aware GI is populated largely by oil workers, camp owners, and those involved with the fishing industry.

Grand Isle is pretty remote but it’s a great get away spot.

I don’t know what the weather has been like around there but note that Tickfaw and the Fairview-Riverside riverside loop are prone to flooding. I’ve been chased out of both by rising water.
