Hello folks --Looks like I might be in Reno sometime this fall/winter. I'll want to be walking distance from the university and old town. There seem to be 3 RV parks downtown to choose from, and all sound pretty sketchy on RVparkreviews: Reno RV, Silver Sage, and Chism's.I don't mind a low rent neighborhood (or neighbors) but I want to feel safe. Broke but nice people are great, scary people not so much. I strongly prefer a park where the caretakers live on site, for that reason.Anybody have personal experience?

Thanks, UOW.Are they unsafe, or just ugly? RVparkreviews says they are just parking lots with trees and hookups. That's fine -- I have stayed at other urban parks that were like that. I am not there for a camping experience :).Or is it more like, needles littering the sidewalks and drunk/crazy people hollering at night? I would spring for a motel to avoid that.

IMHO just ugly. Reno in Dec is not exactly a great hangout and pan handle place. You can see the parks here Reno

None of those you listed are close to the university. Silver Sage is the one across the street from the Peppermill, I believe. The one that is closest to the university is Shamrock RV off Parr Blvd. The sites are kinda tight but it's a decent park. The mgr is a little different, just follow the rules. We stayed there last year. It's also right down the street from the Washoe County Sheriff's office and jail. If you have any more questions, pm me

What us out west said, the park may be OK but you don't want to be walking to and from down town & UNR from these parks. Dick

'Just ugly' I can handle :).

Thanks for the link! I had given up checking campgroundviews because they never had campgrounds I was looking for. Good to see they have these ones! And I see that Keystone is closer in than I thought.

Anybody have any experience with the management at these parks? Nice/cranky/unreachable?

Our home base is Reno.

There are many nice CG's in the Reno/Sparks area to stay but none downtown for what you want to do...like walking around from here to there in the UNR vicinity.

RV Parks Reviews is correct.
