Reservations at Zion - South Campground

I am interested in making a reservation for a couple of nights fairly soon. The system allows for reservations at the South Campground 2 weeks in advance of the stay. I discovered today that the "window" for making those reservations opens at 10:00AM Eastern time each day.

Here's my question: Is this such a high-demand campground that all available sites will get snapped up within seconds at precisely 10:00AM Eastern? I know that's how it is with Florida State Parks, and I've pretty much given up trying to get reservations that way for those parks. But what about Zion South?

Thanks in advance.

  • That's great news! Have a nice time there. For me, my favorite memories of Zion are hiking the Narrows (must start early in morning to beat the worst of the crowds) and coasting my bike nearly the entire way back to the CG (the shuttle buses can carry bikes in front).
  • Well, I was able to get a site.

It was competitive, but not nearly as competitive as Florida State Parks. I had a list of a dozen or so sites that I knew would accommodate our size trailer and were going to be released. I avoided the lowest-numbered and highest-numbered sites on the list. I selected three sites near the middle of the list, and started with the first of my three. It was already claimed at precisely 10:00 Eastern. I went to the second one on my list, and it was available!

So - bottom line - lots of demand, but manageable.

To get those spots, you'll need the whole family pushing buttons on laptops at 9:59AM. It's worse with SoCal beaches.
  • Not sure about this early in the season but during peak, I would expect, that yes, people will be waiting at 9:59am to jump on those sites.
