Know this great place is hard to get into at many times of the year. What about midweek this time of year. Pulling in between 2-4pm?

You cannot judge one month to the next and certinaly not say it was OK last year so it must be at the same time this year. It depends on the weather, period.

What counts as good or bad weather there? Is it bad niw? Was it bad last April?
3/4 timing in a DIY van conversion. Backroads, mountains, boondocking, sometimes big cities for a change of pace.

Appreciate the info about availablity. Last June we did a drive by & wound up at Ventura RV. The warnings about the storms are to be heeded. Not far from there, life was lost due to a massive mud flow that buried homes a few years back. Few years before that, Ventura RV park actually had rigs washed to sea (and lives lost) when heavy rains inland resulted in flooding of the adjacent river. Finally, in my college days in the mid-70's, I was on my way to visit a female 'friend' at Cal Poly SLO. Heading north on 101 right where it is the closest, there were waves coming onto the right hand lane southbound. We So Cal types often forget about how serious weather can be. (And I would be remiss if I didn't point out that on those bygone college days, traversing that stretch of highway, I always made sure the 8 track was blaring, 'Ventura Highway'.

When does it start to fill up? February? March?

In case I want to go sometime -- it sounds like a cool place.

I was there in April last year(mid week), and there were several empty sites.

You will be fine. Only comment is to watch for storms. El Nino last time did some serious damage to the coast... wouldn't want to be there camping when one of the storms hits.

its full ANY TIME the weather is nice at any time of the year, and full on all holidays rain or shine.

With El Niรฑo in town the surf can easily swamp at least half of the road so be careful.

Be aware of the weather. There was a very large fire there a few weeks ago and two miles (approx) of hill that borders the freeway near that area was stripped of all vegetation. There were small mudslides last week, but who knows what another big storm might bring.

I have driven by there many times mid week during the winter months. There has always been several empty spaces.

For what it's worth...I drove through there on my way home this last Friday afternoon and it was nearly empty.
