I've had lots of friends and family wanting me to finance their great business ideas. My first response is ALWAYS "show me your business plan and I will look it over". Their reaction is ALWAYS a blank stare.
The best part is that they never bother me again about it.
I hate that we have to have lawyers, but a good contract before a penny changes hands is worth a lot of good nights' sleeps.
