RV parks in central CO on I-70

Completely concur with 4runnerguy. But on a recent trip coming back from the West, we did stay at River Dance. It is overpriced, but it was in the right place for our trip. I do not regret the decision to stay here, and under the same circumstances would do so again--it was just an overnight. We were on the way to Estes Park and needed an intermediate stop.

We just stayed at the state park in Fruita. It is a lovely campground in an urban area but very close to the interstate so there is road noise and train noise that could be bothersome to some. The ground is soggy from so much watering and the mosquitos are terrible. Our main complaint was the lack of tree trimming. Just a note about I-70 eastbound. There is tons of construction including paving just past Breckenridge. We were in creeping traffic for almost an hour on an uphill grade as 3 lanes reduced to one lane of traffic.

Private park, a little past midway, might look at Tiger Run off the highway with lots to do and see in the town of Breckenridge, a little expensive but nice.

I might also make the suggestion that when leaving Moab you follow the Colorado River and take Rt 128 for the first leg, just a beautiful, memerable drive that we Love. If time allows a side trip to Rifle with a hike up to the Falls.

Last suggestion is to get off I-70 at exit 243 and drive into Denver on Rt 6 through the mountains following Clear Creek and then taking 58 that joins up with I-70 to get you through the city.

We stayed at Ami's Acres this summer and the only time I noticed the road noise was if we were sitting outside and cant remember the train being of any problem

There are few RV parks along this stretch of road. The biggest problem with most is they are near the interstate and thus traffic noise is an issue. River Dance Resort outside of Gypsum has only limited sites with FHU. Glenwood Canyon Resort has not only the interstate noise, but also the train. Same with Ami's acres. The advantage to either of these parks is proximity to the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool (world's largest hot springs pool!). As others have noted, there are several CO SP's along this route. Rifle Gap does have some FHU sites, but everything is out in the open with no trees. At Island Acres, try to reserve a spot as far from the highway as possible. Island Acres does sit in a nice stand of Cottonwood trees and is in the canyon so a little cooler than Fruita (depending on what time of year you are going, this can be important). Fruita is a little further from the highway and thus quieter. This may be the pick selection along this stretch of highway if you need FHU and don't want to travel too far off the interstate.

There is a really nice SP just off the highway at Fruita. Another, again just off the highway & next to the river just east of Grand Junction.

I know you said "private", but you may want to consider a few of the Colorado State Parks that provide services. Rifle Gap/Rifle Falls SPs and James M Robb-Colorado River SP are along I-70 and offer an alternative to private parks.

For private parks, check rvparkreviews.com, probably your best resource. Wide variety of amenities and park types, at various locations along I-70. Glenwood Springs general area would probably be your best bet. Not too much in the way of private parks in the Vail/Summit County/Georgetown area, with the exception of Tiger Run Resort in Breckenridge.

Some Glenwood members here could probably give you better info on some of the parks in that area; it's been years since I've been over there, so some of the parks have likely changed some.

Depending on how far you want to go before stopping, there is a great Colorado State Park with full hookups just off I-70 in Grand Junction- James M Robb. Spacious, scenic, great condition.

Found one park right off the interstate. Glenwood Springs - Glenwood Canyon RV Park - check out reviews on www.rvparkreviews.com - some said was noisy. If that bothers you, maybe you could ask them for a site without so much traffic to get to the river.
